Cole McBee is giving an update on his dad Steve McBee’s future on the show.
While the McBee family continues filming amid Steve’s ongoing legal situation, Cole says his dad has needed time away from the cameras to focus on everything happening offscreen.
Speaking with Decider, Cole explained that filming is still happening while the family is navigating a lot privately.
“We just got to get through everything going on,” Cole told Decider. “Obviously, we’re all filming at the same time. But for my dad, with how much is going on, it’s been nice for him to kind of step away and not have to worry about that.”
Cole said Steve stepping back has allowed him to focus on the bigger issues at hand instead of worrying about filming.
While fans may be wondering if Steve will return to the show, Cole made it sound like the door is not closed. According to Cole, it is more about timing and getting through the legal process first.
“I would say once all of this is finished up [he’ll come back to the show],” Cole said.
Cole also made it clear that Steve’s situation will not simply be over the moment he gets out. He said there will still be issues with the government that need to be resolved before life can return to normal.
“It ain’t over when he gets out. We’ve got to finish up everything with the government,” Cole explained. “Whenever that’s all finished up, I’d say once all the problems are fixed and we’re back to normal life, he’ll probably be back to it. But we’ve just got a lot of problems to fix first, so he’s going to focus on those once he gets out.”
The comments give fans a clearer idea of where Steve stands with the series. While he may not be front and center right now, Cole seems to believe his dad could return once his legal issues are handled and the family is in a better place.
The McBee family has had a lot play out publicly, with their personal lives, business pressures and family dynamics becoming major parts of the show. Steve’s legal situation has added another layer to that, making it harder for him to participate in filming while everything is still unresolved.
