Kelsey Swanson is setting the record straight on just how involved her ex still is in her life after their split.

The Real Housewives of Rhode Island star has been one of the most talked about new Bravo cast members thanks to her unconventional 10 year relationship with an older ex-boyfriend, her decision to walk away from that lifestyle, and her current relationship with William “Bill” L’Europa.

Now, Kelsey is opening up about what her ex still pays for and why she does not think it is as shocking as some viewers may believe.

During The Real Housewives of Rhode Island Season 1, Episode 6, Kelsey admitted that her ex-boyfriend still covers her health insurance and car insurance after their breakup.

She later addressed the arrangement on The Real Housewives of Rhode Island After Show, explaining that after spending a decade together, she feels the support makes sense.

“I feel like the amount of time we spent together through the good and the bad, it’s just, it’s warranted,” Kelsey said. “He’s a good guy.”

Kelsey insisted that the situation was not about taking advantage of her ex or expecting him to continue funding her life after she decided to move on.

“He said, ‘However, I can help you, I will.’ And it’s just like I didn’t say, ‘Yeah, bro, you’re going to pay for my rent now because I’m saying see you later.’ That’s not how the relationship was. It was cordial, it was amicable, and he wanted to help me,” she explained.

Kelsey added that despite their breakup, there is still love and respect between them.

“We still love each other, we still care about each other. It’s like you’ve never dated a good guy if he didn’t offer to help you get on your feet after a breakup,” she said.

Kelsey’s past relationship has been a major part of her RHORI storyline. She has spoken about spending years in a long term relationship that gave her a comfortable lifestyle, but ultimately did not give her the future she wanted.

At 30 years old, Kelsey says she made the difficult choice to leave because she wanted marriage, children, and a partner who wanted to build that future with her.

In an interview with BravoTV.com, Kelsey explained what pushed her to finally walk away.

“At the age of 30, I made the hard decision to do what’s best for me to find somebody who wants to get married and have kids and wants to grow with me,” Kelsey said.

She continued, “It was probably one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make in my life, where the first step is always the hardest. Deciding to put my faith in the unknown and to just put my faith in the possibility of being married and having kids one day is what drove me to leave, I guess. Or putting that as a priority in my life.”

Kelsey has since moved on with William “Bill” L’Europa, who works in the insurance and restoration business.

Viewers first met Bill during RHORI Season 1, Episode 3, after Kelsey revealed that she was seeing him while also still involved with her ex.

Kelsey later shared with BravoTV.com that her connection with Bill goes way back.

“We actually grew up together,” she said. “I’ve known him since the 7th grade, and he was actually one of my first crushes. We kind of saw each other here and there in high school, but always had different friend groups. Eventually, we connected a couple years ago, and kind of stayed connected ever since.”

Kelsey also had nothing but praise for Bill, making it clear that their relationship is very different from what she had before.

“He’s very, very generous and kind and sweet — and probably loves me more than anyone I’ve ever met, other than my parents,” she said.

While Kelsey’s arrangement with her ex may raise eyebrows, she seems to view it as the result of a long, meaningful relationship that ended respectfully rather than dramatically.
