Tamra Judge is opening up about where things stand with her son Ryan Vieth after their “really toxic” falling out.
The Real Housewives of Orange County star reconnected with Ryan earlier this year after the two went nearly a year without speaking. Now, Tamra says their relationship is in a much better place.
“We’re great!” Tamra revealed on The Real Housewives of Orange County After Show. “He calls me every single day.”
Tamra and Ryan first reconnected off-camera over Easter 2026. Shortly after, viewers saw the mother-son duo come together again on RHOC to celebrate Ryan’s daughter Ava’s 11th birthday at Tamra’s home.
According to Tamra, the original fallout started after she called Ryan out for liking and posting what she described as “hate rhetoric” on social media.
“I said that I did not align with the things he was saying, I don’t agree with it, and I think you need to stop,” Tamra recalled.
Tamra said Ryan got upset and the argument quickly turned into something bigger.
“And then he got mad and he left,” she said. “And then it turned into, ‘Well, you’re not a good grandma and you’re not there for Ava all the time.’”
Tamra explained that she pushed back because her life as a grandmother looks different from what Ryan may have experienced growing up.
“I’m like, ‘I work,’” Tamra said. “I’m not the grandmother that my mom was to you, because she was a stay-at-home mom and she took care of you when I wasn’t there.”
Tamra said she wishes she could be more available, but right now she is still working and planning for the future.
“And I get that and I wish that it could be like that,” she continued. “But right now, I’m working towards, not only my future retirement, but also for you kids.”
Tamra joked that she may not be the grandmother who is always available to babysit, but she shows up in her own way.
“There will be a day where I’m gonna slow down, but right now is not it,” Tamra said. “I’m the grandma that’s gonna buy you a Gucci bag.”
During RHOC’s September 24 episode, Tamra reflected on the long road back to Ryan.
“It took almost a year, and then he finally realized, like, ‘You know what, Mom’s right,’” Tamra said. “Now, he’s in a much better place in his life, and I couldn’t be happier.”
Tamra also admitted the fight was painful, but she believes it led to something positive.
“It was not a good fight,” she said on the After Show. “But at the end of the day, I won.”
According to Tamra, Ryan has even encouraged his siblings to listen to her advice.
“Even on Mother’s Day, he told the other kids, like, ‘You know, Mom might give you s–t about stuff and Mom might say things that you shouldn’t believe in and trust. And at the end of the day, she’s usually right,’” Tamra shared. “So, there you have it.”
Tamra also opened up about her relationship with her granddaughter Ava, whom she called her “mini me.”
While Tamra loves Ava, she explained that she is not in a place where she can be a full-time, hands-on grandmother every day.
“I’m working all the time,” Tamra said. “When I have time, yes, I will be with Ava. And I have her phone number, and I will text her, and we will talk and things like that.”
But Tamra said she is not able to have her grandchildren over all day long at this stage of her life.
“I also have been raising kids for 40 years,” she said. “And it’s kind of like, you know what, I don’t want to raise anybody else’s kids at this point unless I have to.”
She added, “And they’re doing a great job, so we’ll leave it at that.”
