Shep Rose is looking back on his relationship with Taylor Ann Green, and he is not sugarcoating his regrets.
The Southern Charm star opens up about his past romance with Taylor in his new memoir, Nothing in Moderation: A Psychedelic Reckoning With Excess, which was released on Tuesday, July 21.
In the book, Shep admits he carries guilt over how he treated Taylor during their relationship.
“I do have a lot of guilt associated with Taylor and our relationship. I cheated. I was partying a lot, sending her home in Ubers and staying out with fellow nightlife folks,” Shep wrote. “She was right: I thought I was some sort of rock star.”
Shep also admitted that he had one-night stands while he and Taylor were together and hoped no one would expose him publicly.
“I didn’t want to, or know how to, say no to anything that was offered, be it girls, drugs, liquor,” he wrote. “I hate admitting it, but I was sort of a bad guy, piss-poor morally.”
Shep and Taylor dated for two years before splitting in 2022. Their breakup became a major Southern Charm storyline, especially as Taylor struggled with the end of the relationship and later faced backlash for her own actions on the show.
Taylor left Southern Charm in 2025 after Season 10, but Shep recently suggested that the two have remained on decent terms.
“She loved me so much and she cared about me so much and I took it for granted and I care about her and her family very much,” Shep said on SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio earlier this month. “Thankfully, that relationship stayed somewhat connected.”
In his memoir, Shep also reflects on Taylor while recounting his experience with ayahuasca during a week-long trip to Costa Rica.
While on the hallucinogenic drug, Shep said his thoughts went back to how deeply Taylor loved him.
“I thought about my ex-girlfriend Taylor, about how much she loved me. I could just see it in her eyes every day. And in her arms and kisses,” he wrote.
Shep recalled moments of Taylor wanting affection while he would get frustrated over something small.
“She would crawl all over me when I would be trying to watch a documentary, trying to cuddle, and I would get mad because I wanted her to pay attention to the film,” he shared.
Looking back, Shep admitted he did not fully appreciate what he had.
“And I know I took it for granted. But it was special,” he wrote. “I wasn’t scared to lose her, though. Which maybe I need?”
Shep also wrote about reconnecting with Taylor’s mother, Leslie Green, and sister, Catie King, after his Costa Rica trip. According to Shep, Leslie would “periodically” check in on him.
Shep said he believes Leslie may see some similarities between him and her late son, Worth Green, who died in 2023 at age 36.
“I was thinking of him because, like me, he was a big personality, a bull in a china shop. But his true colors were amazing. Funny, generous of spirit, thoughtful with boundless energy, etc.,” Shep wrote.
He also acknowledged that there was a more dangerous side to that type of personality.
Shep wrote that there was “a reckless, excess-driven, and dangerous side” to what they shared.
The Bravo star also reflected on Taylor being pulled into the reality TV world because of their relationship and the way she was later judged by viewers.
Shep said he feels regret over how Taylor was “vilified for different actions and reactions” on Southern Charm.
“It’s just tough to think that bringing her into the TV world is all on me,” he wrote.
Shep explained that while the attention felt normal to him after years on Bravo, it was not normal for Taylor.
“Everyone was watching and waiting for cracks in our relationship,” he recalled.
Despite everything, Shep said he hopes Taylor can eventually look back at their time together with some happiness.
“My only hope is that Taylor is able to look back at this crazy but exciting time in her life, when we got to go and do things, see places, and make fun of each other, and have it produce a smile,” he wrote.
