Tamra Judge is finally explaining what really pushed her away from Tres Amigas.
On the Real Housewives of Orange County After Show, Shannon Beador, Tamra Judge and Vicki Gunvalson looked back on the rise and fall of their once-iconic trio, and it’s clear the friendship dynamic is still complicated.
Shannon first explained that the Tres Amigas name actually came from her daughter Sophie Beador during a trip to Punta Mita.
“My daughter Sophie Beador is the one that came up with that name,” Shannon said. “We were in Punta Mita, and I said, ‘What should we call our little group?’ And she said, ‘Why don’t you call yourselves the Tres Amigas?’”
While fans loved the group for years, Tamra admitted she now looks back on the whole thing differently.
“It was embarrassing to me,” Tamra said.
Tamra explained that the Tres Amigas show and branding were never really her idea, adding that she already had enough going on at the time.
“The Tres Amigas whole show and all that was not my idea; I was already busy enough,” Tamra shared.
But according to Tamra, the real reason she stepped away was because of what she heard Shannon had allegedly been saying behind her back.
Tamra said she exited the group once she found out “how Shannon talked mad sh*t about me.”
Shannon, for her part, made it clear that fans should not expect a full Tres Amigas reunion tour anytime soon.
“Are we gonna reunite and go on the road? No,” Shannon said.
Shannon added that while she believes things are currently okay with Tamra, she still feels like the friendship can shift at any moment.
“Today, I think we’re in a good place, and then I hear that she’s making snide comments about me on social media,” Shannon said. “What way is the wind blowing today?”
Shannon also joked that moving forward without Tamra may work better.
“Dos Amigas is better,” she added.
Vicki Gunvalson, meanwhile, had a more nostalgic view of the group. She said their Tres Amigas live shows were fun and that fans enjoyed seeing them together.
“We had fun with it, and the audience had fun with it,” Vicki said.
After Tamra left, Vicki said she and Shannon decided to keep going as a duo.
“Shannon and I decided to continue it, just her and I,” Vicki revealed.
Still, Vicki said she is not desperate to bring the group back.
“I’m not sad that we’re not doing it anymore,” Vicki shared. “Things evolve in relationships. I’m not stuck on ‘Oh, my god, I need the Tres Amigas back.’”
Vicki said she still loves both Shannon and Tamra, but believes the three women need clearer boundaries if they are going to remain in each other’s lives.
“I love both of them, and I think we can be together and just have fun but know each other’s boundaries,” she said.
As for whether the three will ever be as close as they once were, Vicki admitted she is not sure.
“I think there was a lot of damage that was done,” Vicki said.
She then described her friendship with Tamra as a cycle.
“Tamra and I are on a cycle,” Vicki explained. “It’s like we’re good, then we’re bad … It’s exhausting.”
Vicki said she believes Tamra wants her to forget the past and move forward, but that becomes difficult when Tamra goes back to old patterns.
“I think Tamra wants me to forget and move on and I try, but then when she comes at me again or at somebody else again, I realize it’s just who Tamra is, and I have to accept her and love her for that,” Vicki said.
Vicki also reflected on how her friendships have changed as she has gotten older.
“My girlfriend friendships are not what they used to be 30 years ago,” Vicki shared. “I was raising my kids. We all played Bunco. Things were different.”
Now, Vicki says she is looking for fewer friendships with more trust.
“As I get older, I want quality friendships that I can trust,” she said. “Not 20, 30 friendships. I’m not a clinger.”
Tres Amigas may have once been one of RHOC’s most recognizable friendships, but the After Show made it clear that the group is not what it used to be.
Tamra says she left after hearing Shannon allegedly talked badly about her, Shannon is not interested in taking the trio back on the road, and Vicki seems to understand that some friendships simply change.
For now, Tres Amigas may be part of RHOC history, but the drama around why it fell apart is very much still alive.
