Steven McBee Jr. is looking at his past relationship with Calah Jackson a little differently these days.
In an exclusive interview with the Roxanne and Shantel podcast, the McBee Dynasty star opened up about the fallout from his relationship with Allie Eklund and revealed that everything that has happened over the last several months has given him a newfound respect for Calah.
During the conversation, Steven was asked about the difference between how Calah handled their breakup and how Allie has publicly discussed their relationship following the Stagecoach fallout.
Steven was quick to acknowledge that he was far from innocent when it came to his relationship with Calah.
“I am very, very, very aware of my flaws and take full accountability. Like, I am far from innocent here,” Steven said. “But when it comes to those two relationships, Calah, like, I made a lot of mistakes with Calah. We were very toxic, and I have a huge, huge, huge part in that.”
Steven admitted that because of the way their relationship played out, Calah would have had every reason to publicly speak out about him.
“Calah has the right to talk some smack on me, and she has not really done that much since Season 2. I mean, you know, very little here and there.”
Steven said that became even more noticeable to him while Season 3 of The McBee Dynasty was airing, particularly because viewers watched his relationship with Allie unfold while comparisons between the two women were made on the show.
“For her to stay quiet and then also have to listen in Season 3 about how Allie is so much better than Calah, you know, that’s hard,” Steven explained. “I’m going, I don’t have this platform anymore. I’m not on TV to defend myself. And listening to them talk crap about me, that’s a hard situation to be in. And she still really didn’t talk about anyone.”
That, Steven says, has completely shifted the way he looks at Calah today.
“And so there is a newfound respect for Calah for that,” Steven revealed. “And I do appreciate that because, again, I absolutely deserved to have some crap talked on me for how our relationship was and the things that I could have done better in that relationship.”
Steven then compared that dynamic to what he says happened in his relationship with Allie.
“Compared to Allie and I, where I literally bent over backwards,” Steven said. “I mean, I think that’s one of the reasons why I was so shocked at the Stagecoach deal was because of how much I did for that girl and how hard I tried.”
Steven says part of the reason he approached his relationship with Allie differently was because he was trying not to repeat the mistakes he made with Calah.
“It was like I was trying to right all of my wrongs from the Calah relationship with Allie,” Steven explained. “So I was going above and beyond.”
But Steven says the aftermath of the two relationships could not have been more different from his perspective.
“And right now she’s the one that is vehemently going online and trying to smear, like, my entire bloodline every single week,” Steven said of Allie. “So it’s pretty frustrating.”
He continued, “It is eye-opening again to say, hey, you know what? I do respect that you’re mature enough to listen to us talk crap a little bit and not go online or not go on podcasts.”
Steven’s comments come after months of very public fallout surrounding his breakup with Allie following Stagecoach, while Calah has largely remained outside of the conversation surrounding Season 3.
And despite acknowledging that his relationship with Calah was toxic and that he made plenty of mistakes himself, Steven made one thing clear: looking back now, he has a very different appreciation for how his ex handled life after their breakup.
