Crystal Kung Minkoff is revealing how her unexpected return to Bravo came together, and according to the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, she never intended to become part of Jeff Lewis’ new reality show.
During an exclusive interview with Roxanne and Shantel, Crystal explained that her appearance on Still Flipping Out began with something as simple as attending a friend’s birthday dinner.
“I wasn’t planning on coming back,” Crystal revealed.
She explained that she had attended Doug Budin’s birthday dinner because she was friends with the group and knew cameras would be present.
“I didn’t even have a mic on. So I just sort of came as a friend.”
Crystal initially assumed viewers might briefly spot her in the background, but she never imagined the dinner would lead to a recurring presence on the show.
“I did not think there would be like multiple episodes talking about me, showing me.”
Following the dinner, Jeff reached out to ask whether she would consider continuing to film.
“I never really thought about coming back to television,” Crystal explained.
She recalled Jeff asking her to simply wear a microphone during future gatherings, without any particular expectations.
“And sparks flew, I guess,” she joked.
Crystal also addressed why viewers may be seeing a different side of her personality compared to her time on RHOBH.
According to Crystal, stepping away from the Housewives franchise gave her an entirely new perspective on reality television.
She admitted that while filming RHOBH, watching the episodes could feel overwhelming.
“At the time you’re watching it every week, it feels like your whole world is blowing up.”
But after having time away from the show, Crystal said she now views some of those once-stressful moments very differently.
“The episodes that were so painful to watch, it’s like comedy. It’s like watching Seinfeld to me.”
Crystal believes that change in perspective has allowed her to approach filming with Jeff much more comfortably.
She also noted that her experience on Still Flipping Out feels different because she didn’t enter the show expecting to tell her own story.
“I’m like, oh, this is not my story. These are like Jeff and his team story.”
However, Crystal admitted that she was surprised by just how much she ultimately appeared throughout the season.
“I just end up watching it now. I’m like, oh, I’m on half the season. I didn’t expect it.”
While Crystal may not have been looking for another reality television opportunity, her friendship with Jeff Lewis has unexpectedly brought her back into the Bravo spotlight.
Still Flipping out airs Monday at 9pm ET on Bravo.
