During the finale, Janet appeared to throw a drink and the cup at Danny without any physical provocation. Rather than escalating the situation, Danny didn’t retaliate. He walked away, leaving many viewers questioning why the moment wasn’t being discussed with the same level of seriousness as other conflicts on the show.
Following the episode, Janet addressed the backlash on Instagram by sharing a post explaining that throwing a drink and cup can legally be considered assault or battery.
She wrote:
“Yes, throwing a drink and cup is assault/battery. I encourage people to use correct legal terms.”
At first glance, it seemed Janet was acknowledging the seriousness of her actions. But her comment section quickly told a different story.
After several cast members posted nearly identical statements around the same time, one follower asked if they had all been “contractually required to say the same statement.”
Janet replied:
“No they just sent a suggestion and we are all lazy 😂.”
While there’s nothing wrong with admitting the cast used a suggested statement, the laughing emoji and casual tone stood out given the subject matter being discussed.
Then came another interaction that has fans talking even more.
Janet liked a comment that read:
“Assaulting is okay if Janet is doing it 😂.”
That’s where the messaging started to feel inconsistent for many viewers.
On one hand, Janet is reminding everyone to use the proper legal terminology when describing what happened. On the other, she’s engaging with comments that joke about the very behavior she had just acknowledged could legally be considered assault or battery.
It’s a contrast that hasn’t gone unnoticed.
If the goal was to encourage people to take the incident seriously by using accurate terminology, liking a comment that makes light of it seems to undercut that message. Instead of showing accountability, the social media activity has left some fans questioning whether Janet is treating the situation as seriously as she initially suggested.
Meanwhile, Danny’s reaction during the finale also deserves mention. Despite having a drink and cup thrown at him, he didn’t throw anything back, become physical, or escalate the confrontation. He simply walked away.
Between joking that the cast was “all lazy” for posting the same statement and liking a comment that mocked the controversy, many viewers feel her actions after the episode have overshadowed the apology or accountability some were expecting.
Whether fans believe Janet deserves grace is ultimately up to them. But it’s fair to say that if you’re going to remind everyone to use the phrase “assault/battery,” laughing along with comments about it is bound to raise a few eyebrows.
