Allie Eklund is opening up about the red flags she says she noticed during her relationship with Steven McBee Jr.
As fans continue watching the beginning of Allie and Steven’s romance unfold on Season 3 of McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, Allie is now looking back on the relationship and claiming there were signs early on that things were not going to last.
During an interview with Us Weekly, Allie said that when she and Steven first started dating, they seemed like the perfect match.
“Looking back on it, we obviously — our first couple of dates, on paper and from conversation, we were the perfect match, so it felt,” Allie said.
But according to Allie, once she spent more time with Steven in person, things started to feel different.
“And then when I, you know, immersed myself in being with him in person and the reality of things, I just, I quickly realized after a couple months that … what he was saying and his actions were not lining up,” she continued.
Allie said there were things happening behind the scenes that caused her to question the relationship.
“So there were a couple things that started happening that I was aware of that, yeah, started to make me question and raise those concerns and flags that I dealt with privately,” she said. “And you know, I leaned on my inner circle for support.”
Allie also said she began questioning Steven’s behavior and how she was treated away from cameras.
“I was definitely starting to question some behavior, some things that were said. You know, how I was treated behind the scenes. Like, there were definitely some things that I was questioning,” she shared.
Still, Allie acknowledged that Steven did have qualities she loved and admired.
“With that being said, there were also qualities that I really loved and admired about him,” Allie said. “But I started to definitely see things that were outweighing those good qualities, for sure.”
Allie and Steven’s relationship is currently playing out on McBee Dynasty, but in real time, the two split in April after a public Stagecoach controversy. Steven accused Allie of cheating on him, which she denied. Steven later apologized for his comments and said he would seek therapy.
When asked if she feels she has closure from the relationship, Allie said Steven’s actions gave her all the closure she needed.
“Closure is such an interesting word. His actions showed me exactly how he feels about me and what he said to me, you know, that was enough closure,” Allie said. “There’s nothing else that needs to be said. How you treated me and what you said to me, that was just the cherry on top.”
Allie also revealed that she actually broke up with Steven privately during filming before they eventually got back together.
“There had been instances before this that he had been trying to work through again behind closed doors that his family was aware of,” Allie claimed. “I actually broke up with him in the middle of filming privately. You know, I did it graciously.”
Allie said she chose not to speak about the breakup publicly at the time in order to protect Steven.
“When I was asked to speak on it, I chose not to to protect him and we ended up getting back together with the support and encouragement of his family to try to work through some of those things, and the pattern continued,” she claimed.
According to Allie, once she realized the behavior was a pattern, she knew the relationship was over.
“So, when I realized that it was a pattern and it wasn’t circumstantial, this was really just the icing on the cake for me. And it was it,” she said.
Allie said Steven later asked to have a closure conversation, but she declined.
“There’s no conversation to be had, no closure left. Like, that’s closure enough for me,” she said. “And when he asked me to have a conversation, a closure conversation, I denied it because there’s when your actions and your words don’t line up. There’s nothing that I can do with that.”
Allie concluded by saying she wishes Steven the best from afar.
“So, you know, I wish him the best from afar,” she said.
Allie’s comments come as the public conversation around her relationship with Steven continues to grow. Viewers are currently watching the early stages of their romance, while off screen, both have already moved on from the relationship after a messy public breakup.
