Dorit Kemsley is opening up about how her terrifying 2021 home invasion changed not only her life, but also her marriage to PK Kemsley.
In her debut memoir, Unburdened, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star reflects on the trauma she experienced after multiple men broke into the family’s home and stole around $100,000 worth of valuables. Dorit was home at the time with her two children, Jagger and Phoenix, while PK was abroad for work.
The intruders held Dorit at gunpoint during the robbery, and no suspects were ever caught.
RHOBH viewers watched Dorit struggle with the aftermath of the home invasion on camera, including the fear, anxiety and emotional toll it took on her. But in her memoir, Dorit reveals that the incident also created a deeper divide between her and PK.
At the time, Dorit says PK was working on a TV show in the U.K., which required him to travel often. While he was focused on building something professionally overseas, Dorit says she was trying to rebuild a sense of safety inside their home.
“I was trying to stabilize our home while he was building something abroad. I was trying to restore a sense of safety while he was talking about expansion. I was looking inward, trying to repair something fragile, while he was looking outward, energized by what was next,” She wrote. “The difference wasn’t explosive. It wasn’t a screaming fight. It was subtler than that. It was a divergence. And at times, if I am honest, his pursuits felt almost like escape.”
Dorit’s home invasion became one of the most talked about moments connected to RHOBH, not only because of how traumatic it was, but also because conspiracy theories began circulating afterward. Some online critics questioned whether the robbery had been staged, an allegation Dorit and PK have repeatedly denied.
Despite defending PK publicly and shutting down the rumors, Dorit says she privately felt more isolated.
“The more I protected him publicly, the more alone I felt privately,” she shared. “I was beginning to understand that something had shifted between us in ways I had not yet fully processed.”
“The night of the invasion had changed me. What I had not yet grasped was how deeply it had altered the space between us. And before I could understand what that meant for our marriage, I had to confront what it had done to me.”
The home invasion was not the only major stressor Dorit discusses in the memoir. She also opens up about PK’s financial situation and how money became another source of tension in their marriage.
Dorit says that when PK’s past financial issues became public, she stood by him. But over time, she claims she was no longer included in important conversations about their finances.
According to Dorit, she began asking for “clarity” because she was contributing to their lifestyle through RHOBH and her own ventures.
“That shouldn’t be controversial. But it became so. The more I began earning from Housewives and my own ventures, the more the financial lines sharpened,” Dorit claimed. “As my income grew, so did his expectation to decide how it was used. Not collaboratively, but decisively. I wasn’t comfortable with that. I didn’t want control. I wanted a partnership. And when I insisted on transparency, it became a friction point that never truly left us.”
Their issues, she claimed, were “about alignment.”
Dorit and PK married in 2015 and share two children together. After years of speculation about the state of their marriage, the couple announced their separation in May 2024. She later filed for divorce.
