Dorit Kemsley is revealing another painful turning point in the breakdown of her marriage to PK Kemsley.
In her debut memoir, Unburdened, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star claims PK spoke with a lawyer nearly one year before the couple officially announced their separation. According to Dorit, the revelation made her realize that while she was still trying to save the marriage, PK may have already been thinking about an exit.
Dorit and PK, who married in 2015, announced their separation in May 2024 after years of speculation about the state of their relationship. Dorit later filed for divorce. The former couple share two children, Jagger, 12, and Phoenix, 10.
In the book, Kemsley writes that she and PK were already in a period of “estrangement” in 2023 when she received a message from him that immediately felt different.
“I received a message from him late one night. It stopped me cold. It was about the children,” Dorit wrote. “About responsibility. About concern. It was not his voice. I knew instantly.”
Dorit says she suspected the message did not sound like PK and believed something else was going on behind the scenes.
According to Dorit, PK initially denied that he had spoken with a lawyer. Months later, she claims he admitted that he had.
“That conversation happened nearly a year before we formally separated. That was a pivotal moment,” Dorit wrote. “Not because marriages don’t struggle, but because while I was still fighting for us, still believing we were in this together, he had quietly begun exploring an exit.”
The revelation adds another layer to Dorit and PK’s very public split. In Unburdened, Kemsley has opened up about several issues she says contributed to the breakdown of their marriage, including PK’s drinking, financial tension, emotional distance and the aftermath of her traumatic 2021 home invasion.
Dorit previously wrote that after the home invasion, she felt like she was trying to restore safety at home while PK was focused on work abroad.
“I was trying to stabilize our home while he was building something abroad. I was trying to restore a sense of safety while he was talking about expansion. I was looking inward, trying to repair something fragile, while he was looking outward, energized by what was next,” Dorit wrote. “The difference wasn’t explosive. It wasn’t a screaming fight. It was subtler than that. It was a divergence. And at times, if I am honest, his pursuits felt almost like escape.”
She also claimed that the more she defended PK publicly, the more alone she felt privately.
“The more I protected him publicly, the more alone I felt privately,” she shared. “I was beginning to understand that something had shifted between us in ways I had not yet fully processed.”
