Jen Shah made a shocking revelation on Wednesday’s episode of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
The controversial reality TV star revealed that she tried to take her life after Instagram trolling against her became so overwhelming following her arrest in March 2021.
Jen explains that as she was dealing with her fraud scandal, the hate against her on social media intensified when her co-stars and former friends Angie and Chris Harrington used her name to create a troll Instagram account to harass others within their friend group.
In the middle of Jen’s fraud trial, Chris created an anonymous Instagram account named “Shahexposed.” He used the account to bash other Housewives and Bravolebs inclining Jen’s on-again, off-again friend Lisa Barlow.
During Wednesday’s episode, Jen told co-star Whitney Rose that she became so overwhelmed with the hate coming at her that she was suicidal. Earlier in the season, Jen revealed that she had to go on anti-depressants following her arrest.
“I tried to commit suicide, and my husband had to take me to the hospital,” she said.
She added: “the whole Angie Harrington and Chris Harrington [thing] affected me so much that I tried to take my life.”
Earlier in the episode, Jen first opened up to costars Heather Gay and Lisa Barlow about her suicide attempt.
“I almost committed suicide. I tried to. Because your friend is heartless and decided to drag me and my entire family. Omar and Sheriff weren’t going to have a mom. [Coach] wasn’t going to have a wife,” Jen explained.
She elaborated further in her confessional interview, saying, “I have always felt like I’m a pretty strong person, but when I found out about Shahexposed, it came on a day when there was a lot of negativity about the trial. I got to the point that day where I was done.”
“I locked myself in the bathroom, and Coach was so scared he had to kick the door down because he didn’t know what I was going to do. Coach had to take me to the hospital,” she continued. “I was there for two and a half days.”
“You have no idea. The bullying is not okay,” Jen told Heather and Lisa.
For over a year, Jen maintained her innocence before finally pleading guilty to committing wire fraud in July 2022. She also pleaded guilty to knowingly offering fraudulent services of no value to people “over the age of 55.”
Jen was set to be sentenced in December 2022, but the date was recently pushed to January 6, 2023.
The reality TV star faces up to 14 years in prison and may have to pay nearly $10 million in restitution.
When it comes to Jen’s future on RHOSLC, Andy Cohen recently hinted that Jen’s time on the show came to an end when she pleaded guilty to wire fraud. Bravo has yet to formally announce Jen’s departure from the show.
It’s unclear if Jen will appear at the RHOSLC season 3 reunion which is set to film any day now. Andy did say he was eager to sit down for a one-on-one with Jen, so only time will tell if Jen will appear at the reunion in some capacity or not.
“Once we wrapped [Season 3 and] she pled guilty, I think that was kind of, unfortunately, the end of, you know, the engagement there,” Andy announced during BravoCon 2022. “But I hope to sit down with her and talk to her at some point on camera because I have a lot of questions for her.”
