Lisa Rinna is irreplaceable, accoridng to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills executive producer Alex Baskin.
Baskin admitted that it will be difficult to replace Rinna following her exit ahead of season 13.
“I think you never look to replace someone who just departed — because there is only one Lisa Rinna,” Baskin told Page Six at the 2023 Realscreen Summit in Austin, TX, on Monday.
There are currently several spots to fill within the RHOBH cast before production begins for season 13. On top of Rinna’s exit, Diana Jenkins also announced her departure in early January.
“I think you look for someone who is going to both fit in and stand out,” Baskin noted.
However, finding that diamond in the rough can be “really hard,” according to Baskin.
“You want someone who has relationships with the rest of the group, someone who will be a real girlfriend to them and, at the same time, someone who will make a distinct impression,” he explained.
Baskin also discussed how the reunions are becoming more challenging as the franchises evolve. He then noted that the RHOBH season 12 reunion is a perfect example of that, noting that “it was horrible” to see Rinna repeatedly faceoff with Kathy Hilton.
“They’re harder and harder. I think we cover more, and, in general, nothing is off-limits with the shows. Because the audience is so involved in the reunions … everything under the sun is thought of and asked,” he admitted.
“It does take a lot of stamina. I always say the season is a marathon and the reunion is a sprint, and you’re dead-tired at the end.”
All in all, the producers and stars of the Real Housewives are proud of the shows they create.
“It’s a great franchise. We’re really proud of it. The people who work on the shows love the shows,” Kathleen French, SVP, Current Production, who works on RHOBH and the Real Housewives of Miami, added.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is expected to return for season 13 in 2023.
“I think the women are proud of what they do, and speaking both as an executive producer and also as a network exec, I’m so proud of the franchise as well.”
