Kyle Richards is shedding more light on how her family navigated life after her separation from Mauricio Umansky,and she’s making it clear that the transition wasn’t easy for everyone involved. While viewers may assume her daughters were unaffected because they’re grown, Kyle says the reality was far more complicated.
Speaking on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show, Richards revealed that her daughters struggled significantly in the aftermath of the split.
“They’ve come so far since the separation,” Richards stressed. But at first, “They really did struggle,” she admitted.
Kyle acknowledged that outsiders often underestimate how deeply older children can be impacted by a major family change, especially when they’re more aware of what’s happening behind the scenes.
“I feel like some people don’t understand that just because they’re not little, they didn’t struggle,” Kyle said. She added, “I think that sometimes the littler you are and the younger you are and the more in the dark you are about things, it could be even easier.”
According to Kyle, her daughters had to work through real emotional challenges as they adjusted to a new version of family life.
“My girls really did go through a hard time — depression and adjusting to this new life. I have to say, they’ve come very far.”
Despite the difficulties, Kyle shared that the separation ultimately strengthened her bond with her daughters. What began as a painful transition has evolved into a deeper, more connected relationship.
“We are such a tight-knit family anyway — all of us,” Kyle stated. But now, “Our relationship has taken a different … I don’t know. It’s gone to a deeper level, especially as they’re getting older, too. We’re, like, best friends. We have so much fun together. We share more than we used to, across the board … It’s been really great in a lot of ways, too, even though it’s been really difficult.”
