Erin Lichy is addressing what she believes fans still get wrong about her ahead of The Real Housewives of New York City Season 16 premiere.
Speaking with Us Weekly, Erin opened up about the misconceptions surrounding her character, her reputation as a pot stirrer and why she feels more supported than ever heading into the new season.
When asked what people misunderstand about her, Erin joked that she does not care what anyone thinks before quickly admitting that, sometimes, she does.
“I don’t really give a sh** what people think about me,” Erin said. “No, I’m kidding. Sometimes I do.”
Erin said one of the biggest assumptions that bothers her is the idea that she has had everything handed to her.
“I feel like people think that I’m so pampered, and I have worked so hard,” Erin explained. “I was not given anything. I mean, I definitely grew up in a comfortable way, and I grew up in New York City with a lot of opportunity but I have worked my ass off.”
Erin admitted that while some viewers understand that, others do not, and it gets under her skin.
“And sometimes I feel like people don’t really realize that — a lot of people do, but a lot of people don’t,” she said. “That kind of bugs me a little, but I’ll show them all.”
As for the online commentary, Erin has learned not to get too caught up in what fans are saying.
“The comments. Do not read. It’s pointless,” she said, adding, “We all take, like, a beating at some point.”
While Erin may have felt misunderstood by viewers, she says she enters the new season with more support from her castmates, specifically Daisy and returning RHONY alum Carole Radziwill.
According to Erin, her friendships with both women felt natural and easy.
“I think that with us, it was a very easy, authentic, immediate, close friendship,” Erin said. “It was like when you just have chemistry with a friend and then they’re your friend forever. That’s how it felt with the two of them.”
Erin shared that she has known Carole for a while, while her friendship with Daisy is newer.
“I’ve been friends with Carole for a while. I met Daisy, like, six months ago,” Erin said.
Still, she said the bond already feels close and effortless.
“But it’s like, ‘Hey, do you have a white suit?’ And, ‘Yeah, I’ll drop it off later tonight.’ That kind of friendship,” Erin explained. “And it feels good. It feels like really, for the first time, I have this kind of support on the show.”
Erin also reflected on her first season and admitted she understands why some fans labeled her a pot stirrer.
She said she is “aware” of that reputation and did not exactly deny that she may continue stirring things up in Season 16.
“I think so,” Erin said when asked if she keeps stirring the pot this season. “But then I hand over the baton to someone else. So just wait, and you’ll find out who that is.”
That tease should have RHONY fans paying attention.
Erin entered the rebooted RHONY as one of the more polarizing cast members, often finding herself in the middle of drama and group tension. But heading into Season 16, she seems ready to show a different side of herself while still keeping the drama moving.
