A former Real Housewives of Orange County producer is not backing down from his claims about Shannon Beador.
Patrick McDonald appeared on Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald, where he opened up about his experience working behind the scenes on RHOC and explained why he previously left a harsh comment about Shannon’s alleged behavior with production.
Heather brought up a parody video she had made about Shannon and noted that Patrick had commented on it, writing that it was “most wild” to see Shannon allegedly go from “absolutely losing her sh*t, yelling, screaming and cussing at the producers and crew right before the cameras turn on” to then switching into what he called a “tired old performative shtick.”
Patrick admitted he did not expect the comment to take off the way it did.
“My God, if I had known that that comment on your video would have done so much, I might have not done it,” Patrick said.
He then reacted to Shannon later addressing the comment in an interview with Jamie Kennedy.
“She’s like, this producer came out and spoke about me,” Patrick said. “And she’s like, I gave you chicken, mister or whatever.”
Patrick explained that Shannon was referring to leftover food from a scene they filmed.
“There was like a scene where we shot where there was leftover food and like she was going to throw it away and she let me take it home,” Patrick said. “Thank you, Shannon. Thank you for that chicken.”
But Patrick said that did not change his opinion of how Shannon allegedly treated people behind the scenes.
“It doesn’t change the fact that you are also like a really horrible person to most of the people around you,” he said.
Heather then asked Patrick what exactly he meant, especially since this is reality television and not a scripted show where an actor might lose their temper before cameras start rolling.
Patrick said filming with Shannon was “wild,” though he did acknowledge that she was going through a difficult time.
“I have a lot of empathy for anyone who’s going through a struggling time, especially while shooting one of these shows,” Patrick said.
He also said he understood Shannon being upset that Alexis Bellino had been brought back to RHOC, calling that casting decision “absolutely diabolical.”
“I will be the first to validate her complaint that it was absolutely diabolical of them to add Alexis Bellino to that show,” Patrick said.
Still, Patrick claimed Shannon has a complicated relationship with RHOC itself.
“Shannon is a fascinating case because it’s one of the most fascinating cases of Stockholm Syndrome, I think we’ve ever seen on reality TV,” Patrick claimed. “Because she hates that show. She hates doing the show every f***ing day. She resents the fact that she has to be there. But she loves being famous.”
Patrick also alleged that Shannon enjoys the benefits of being on the show and needs the paycheck.
“She loves the perks that come along with that,” he said. “And she loves the check, obviously. And not only that, but she needs that check.”
According to Patrick, production also protects Shannon by not showing everything.
“They also protect her,” Patrick claimed. “So they don’t show her at her very, very worst, because there’s footage of Shannon that is much worse than you’ve ever seen on the show.”
Patrick suggested that producers only show enough to make Shannon entertaining without pushing the audience too far against her.
“They show her being crazy, show her some stuff. Then they show her being funny,” he said, referencing the lighter Shannon moments that fans have loved over the years.
Patrick added that those moments help keep viewers on Shannon’s side.
“Then that gets the audience to laugh. And so they like her and then that makes her feel good,” Patrick said. “She’s like, okay, all right, maybe I can put up with it for another year.”
Patrick then referenced other people who have spoken out about Shannon, including Joel Kim Booster after Love Hotel and Katie Ginella, who previously filmed one of Shannon’s alleged meltdowns.
“When I heard that, I was like, every single word he said is true,” Patrick said of Joel’s criticism. “I’ve seen her do it multiple times.”
Heather asked if Shannon’s alleged behavior came across as diva behavior, asking if it was the type of situation where something small could set her off, like glam running late or something not fitting.
Patrick said yes and recalled one of his first experiences filming at Shannon’s home.
“The very first day that I shot at her house, we shoot the scene,” Patrick said, explaining that production typically keeps cameras rolling at the end because unexpected moments can happen.
According to Patrick, Shannon wanted filming to stop once the planned scene had wrapped.
“She’s like, are we done? Okay, we’re done. We’re stopped. Filming should be stopped. No one’s filming, right?” Patrick recalled.
He said Shannon then looked directly into the camera and said, “You’re not filming.”
Patrick said the moment stood out because Shannon then called a restaurant and introduced herself using the show’s name.
“This is Shannon Beador from The Real Housewives of Orange County,” Patrick recalled her saying during the call.
He claimed Shannon repeated the introduction again while trying to make a reservation and requested not to be seated in the front.
“For the love of God, do not put us in the front table again,” Patrick recalled Shannon saying. “Everybody was gawking at us the last time. Please put us in the back so we can have a nice dinner.”
Patrick said the moment immediately struck him as telling.
“The fact that she introduced herself as Shannon Beador from The Real Housewives of Orange County, not once but twice, on a 30-second phone call, I was like, yikes, lady,” he said.
Patrick’s comments come after Shannon has already pushed back on his earlier remarks. Shannon previously said she did not believe his description was accurate and referenced the fact that she had once sent him home with food after filming.
The former producer, however, is now doubling down.
While Patrick said he has empathy for what Shannon has dealt with on the show, he also believes viewers have not seen the full extent of her alleged behind-the-scenes behavior.
For years, Shannon has been one of RHOC’s most talked-about cast members, known for her emotional reactions, quirky humor and chaotic personal storylines. But Patrick is claiming there is another side to Shannon that production has allegedly had to manage off camera.
Whether fans believe Patrick or feel he is being too harsh, his Juicy Scoop interview is adding even more fuel to the ongoing conversation about Shannon, production and how much Housewives viewers never actually see.
