K. Michelle may be part of the Bravo universe now, but that does not mean she is looking to make music with every Bravoleb who has stepped into a recording booth.

The newest Real Housewives of Atlanta star has been in the music industry for more than two decades, and while plenty of Housewives and Bravo personalities have released songs over the years, K. Michelle is making it clear that she takes her craft very seriously.

The Memphis born singer first made her name in R&B with her 2009 single “Fakin’ It” featuring Missy Elliott. After years of success in the R&B world, K. Michelle announced in 2023 that she was making a transition into country music.

Last summer, she released “Jack Daniel’s,” the lead single from her upcoming country album, Puddin’, and she is now preparing to reveal the album cover.

K. Michelle, who studied music at Florida A&M University, said her country project carries a deeper meaning. As the only African American artist currently signed to her country label, she says she feels a responsibility to honor both the genre and Black artists in the space.

“I have a lot on my back,” K. Michelle told DECIDER. “I want to make sure that this project is representation of African Americans in country music. I also want to make sure that it is my honor and respect to the music that I grew up in. I grew up on The Judds. I want to make sure that this album is a masterpiece, and that it shows my love and the type of music that I naturally have always been singing.”

Of course, Bravo has no shortage of reality stars who have dabbled in music.

Erika Jayne, Scheana Shay, Melissa Gorga, Luann de Lesseps, Adriana de Moura and Candiace Dillard Bassett have all released music during or after their time on reality TV. Even K. Michelle’s RHOA co-stars Drew Sidora and Shamea Morton are known for their vocal abilities.

But when asked if there was anyone from Bravo she would want to collaborate with, K. Michelle did not hesitate.

“No, I’m not a dabbler,” she said. “I’m super successful, I don’t need to dabble with any of them. There’s nobody I want to dabble with. I don’t really dabble with my gift.”

K. Michelle did acknowledge Kandi Burruss, who has a long and legitimate music career outside of Bravo as a member of Xscape and as a Grammy winning songwriter.

“I know of Kandi. We do have a lot of the same friends,” K. Michelle said. “We just had a show on Sunday, me and Xscape. We’re R&B singers, so we happen to get to see each other often.”

K. Michelle’s comments make it clear that while she may now be part of Real Housewives of Atlanta, she does not see herself as another reality star trying music for fun. She sees herself as an artist first.

And when it comes to Bravo collaborations, K. Michelle is drawing a very clear line. She is not dabbling with her gift.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.
