During a recent episode of the “Two Ts in a Pod” podcast with cohost Tamra Judge and guest Dolores Catania, Mellencamp opened up about asking her doctor for GLP 1s after gaining weight during treatment for stage 4 melanoma.

“I am a health and wellness coach who’s dying of cancer,” Mellencamp said while laughing. “And because I gained weight from the steroids, because I’m getting bigger from the steroids, I asked my doctor if I could please have GLP 1s. And he was like, ‘No!’”

Catania immediately reacted to the story, telling Mellencamp, “I’m so sorry someone told you no, but I don’t know that I’d listen!”

Catania then admitted she had received a similar response from doctors herself.

“I was told no too,” she said. “Doesn’t mean I’m not gonna do it.”

The conversation quickly turned playful as Catania suggested Mellencamp could still find another way to get the medication if she really wanted it.

“I mean, I know people where I could get it,” Mellencamp admitted. “I have friends that do it.”

“Listen, let me enjoy my time!” she added with a laugh.

Catania then encouraged her to join her own GLP 1 journey, saying, “Well, I’m taking it tomorrow if you wanna start with me. Do what you want, Teddi.”

The emotional but humorous exchange took another turn when Catania suggested the doctor refusing the medication might actually be a positive sign regarding Mellencamp’s prognosis.

“I don’t think you’re dying, because I think he would have said, ‘Just go do it,’” Catania explained. “He’s telling you, ‘No.’”

Mellencamp jokingly responded, “So rude! Let me live. You tell me to live my best life, but I don’t even get… Live your best life? Where are my GLP 1s?”

Catania continued, “That’s why I think maybe someone’s lying. I don’t think you’re dying. Because he would’ve said, ‘Oh, if that’s what you want, sure! Take that, go do some coke, go snort whatever you want!’”

Mellencamp first revealed her Melanoma diagnosis in 2022 when she shared she had stage 2 melanoma. Earlier this year, she confirmed the cancer had progressed to stage 4 and spread to both her brain and lungs.

Despite the difficult diagnosis, Mellencamp later revealed that scans showed no detectable cancer in her body following treatment, though she continues immunotherapy and ongoing monitoring as part of her recovery process.

Throughout the health battle, Mellencamp has remained unusually open with fans about the emotional, physical and even comedic moments that have come with treatment and this latest podcast conversation is just another example of how she continues to navigate it all with honesty and humor.
