Teddi Mellencamp is opening up about the heartbreaking challenges she continues to face following her stage IV cancer diagnosis and emergency brain surgery, revealing that she still struggles with writing, speaking and performing everyday tasks that once came naturally to her.
The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 45, also admitted that she has decided to stop sending emails altogether, explaining that the lasting effects of her brain surgery have forced her to accept a very different version of herself.
During an October 27 appearance on The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show, Teddi discussed the physical and emotional toll of her cancer battle, revealing that while she is grateful to be alive, she continues to experience depression, anger and fear.
“I had to relearn things,” Teddi explained while discussing the aftermath of her brain surgery.
The reality star revealed that her ability to communicate was significantly affected, including her speech and handwriting.
Although Teddi continues co-hosting her popular Bravo podcast, Two Ts in a Pod, alongside Tamra Judge, she admitted that speaking publicly can still make her anxious.
According to Teddi, recording the podcast has actually helped her rebuild her speech skills and become more comfortable communicating.
However, she continues to worry about forgetting words or struggling to speak during live appearances.
She explained that whenever she participates in a live event, she sometimes worries that she won’t remember how to speak or will accidentally say the wrong words.
But her difficulties extend beyond speaking.
Teddi revealed that she still cannot write normally by hand and acknowledged that she should be attending physical therapy to help improve that ability.
“Some stuff I really don’t want to do,” she admitted.
And rather than struggle with another form of written communication, Teddi revealed that she has made a permanent decision about emails.
“I won’t email. And now I’ve decided I’ll never email again. It’s the best thing,” Teddi explained.
“Everyone hates it. But like even my agents will send me something, and then they’ll send a text. ‘We just emailed you.’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t email.’”
While Teddi appeared to find some humor in her new approach to communicating, her comments offered a glimpse into how dramatically her daily life has changed since her cancer diagnosis.
Teddi’s health battle began in 2022 when she was diagnosed with stage II melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer.
Over the following years, she underwent numerous procedures to remove cancerous spots and regularly encouraged her followers to schedule skin checks.
However, in February 2025, Teddi was hospitalized after experiencing severe headaches and underwent emergency surgery after doctors discovered multiple tumors in her brain.
Two months later, she revealed that her cancer had progressed to stage IV and spread to her lungs and brain.
During her latest interview, Teddi reflected on how serious her condition had become, revealing that she believes her chances of survival were extremely low when doctors first discovered the tumors.
“I think I had an eight percent chance of living,” she shared.
The frightening diagnosis and subsequent treatments have left Teddi dealing with more than just physical limitations.
She also revealed that her therapist believes she has developed post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of her medical experiences.
According to Teddi, there are days when she feels grateful for surviving, but those emotions are frequently accompanied by anger and depression.
She explained that one of her greatest challenges has been accepting that she can no longer function the way she did before her diagnosis.
Before her cancer battle, Teddi described herself as a perfectionist who placed enormous pressure on herself to accomplish everything and do it well.
Now, she is learning to adjust her expectations.
“Now, I’ve had to come to terms with the fact of you’re going to do very little things well,” Teddi admitted.
“You’re going be happy if you can get out of bed.”
The former Housewife also revealed that she experiences particularly difficult emotional days approximately once a week.
Rather than trying to handle those moments alone, she has learned to rely on a close group of female friends for support.
“It’s probably like once a week I have like a really low day, and that’s when I cry,” Teddi shared.
“And thankfully, I have a group of girls that I kind of take turns calling when this happens.”
When those difficult moments arrive, Teddi said she reaches out and asks for companionship.
“Can you either come over or can we go on a walk?” she recalled asking her friends.
Her latest interview comes shortly after Teddi shared another emotional update about her ongoing recovery on Instagram.
On October 26, she posted a series of videos discussing the lasting effects of her surgeries and cancer treatments, including difficulty seeing, remembering numbers and writing.
Teddi also revealed that she continues to experience hand tremors and has struggled with motivation as she adjusts to life after her diagnosis.
However, she explained that she is determined to rebuild her strength and establish a healthier daily routine while continuing immunotherapy.
“I’m not gonna try to be the old Teddi, but I’m gonna try to be the new and improved Teddi,” she told followers.
Teddi admitted that even simple activities, such as making her bed, getting dressed to exercise and remembering passwords, have become meaningful challenges.
Despite those obstacles, she celebrated returning to her treadmill and completing her first jog in two years with encouragement from her coaching team.
She emphasized that her goal was no longer about appearance or losing weight but about feeling stronger and improving her overall well-being.
The RHOBH alum has also been candid about the emotional difficulty of seeing how her appearance has changed throughout cancer treatment.
After sharing photographs of herself before and after treatment, Teddi explained that she was no longer focused on becoming the person she was before her diagnosis.
Instead, she is trying to embrace a different future.
Her latest revelations also come as she continues balancing her health journey with motherhood.
Teddi shares three children, Slate, Cruz and Dove, with her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave, and has frequently spoken about how important her family and friends have been throughout her treatment.
Although she continues to face serious physical and emotional challenges, Teddi has remained active on her podcast, where she regularly discusses Bravo drama alongside Tamra.
And according to Teddi, continuing to record the show has become more than just a job.
It has also played a role in helping her regain confidence in her speech and communication abilities.
