Tamra Judge’s Daughter Sidney Once Accused Her Of Being “Mentally And Emotionally Abusive” As Vicki Gunvalson References Her Claims

Tamra Judge’s painful estrangement from her daughter Sidney Barney has once again become a major topic of conversation on The Real Housewives of Orange County, following her emotional confrontation with Vicki Gunvalson during the cast’s trip to Tokyo.

During the October 15 episode, Tamra broke down while discussing her strained relationship with Sidney and the hurt she felt over Vicki previously commenting on their family situation.

However, Vicki defended her remarks by suggesting she was referencing statements Sidney had already made publicly about her mother.

For longtime RHOC viewers, Vicki’s comments brought renewed attention to an explosive Facebook statement Sidney published in August 2017, when she was 18 years old.

The statement offered a dramatically different account of the mother-daughter estrangement than what viewers had heard from Tamra on the show.

Sidney began by explaining that she was frustrated with her mother continuing to discuss their relationship publicly, despite repeated requests for privacy.

“I want to start by clearing some things up as my mother continues to talk about me despite me requesting her to stop speaking of me publicly as I don’t want to be associated with her or the show.”

Sidney also disputed the suggestion that she had simply chosen her father, Simon Barney, following her parents’ divorce.

“For starters, I did not move out when my parents got a divorce nor did I chose my fathers side in the divorce. My parents separated in 2010, I moved out of my mother’s house in 2013.”

She continued, “Me leaving has nothing to do with the divorce, it has to do with the living conditions at my mothers house and the way she treated me and still treats me today.”

According to Sidney, she had initially sided with Tamra when her parents separated.

“In regards to choosing sides, I actually chose my mothers side when my parents separated.”

Sidney alleged that Tamra frequently spoke negatively about Simon in front of the children and involved them in their parents’ disagreements.

“This was due to the fact that my mother, the true parent alienator, would constantly talk negatively about my father in front of me and my siblings, putting us kids in the middle of my parents arguments.”

Sidney also claimed that Tamra compared the children to Simon when she was upset with them.

“She even called us Simon or ‘mini Simon’ when we did something bad or told us that we were ‘acting like your father’.”

Sidney said that behavior initially damaged her relationship with Simon.

“This parent alienation caused me to resent my father and take her side. However as I got older I realized what she was doing along with other things that were toxic.”

Sidney then made some of the most serious allegations in her statement.

“The reasons I left my mothers house are that she was neglectful (leaving us at home with no food or simply ignoring us entirely), she constantly put herself first and the biggest reason was that she was mentally and emotionally abusive.”

She continued, “She was no mother to me. This was an unhealthy environment for all of us kids and unfortunately I was the only one to recognize this and take steps to get out of that toxic environment.”

These were allegations made by Sidney, not independently established findings. Tamra publicly denied ever abusing, hurting or neglecting her daughter.

Sidney went on to claim that she had repeatedly explained her feelings to Tamra through therapy, court proceedings and personal conversations.

“I have explained this to her numerous times in court, in therapy, and when we would meet up that the ONLY reason I am not living with her is because she continues to do the things that pushed me out of her house.”

Sidney specifically referenced Tamra speaking about her on RHOC, in interviews and on social media.

She also accused her mother of embarrassing her publicly, lying to her and putting herself first.

According to Sidney, she had spent years trying to repair the relationship.

“I went to therapy with my mother for 3 years. I was forced by the courts and my father to try to mend the relationship with my mother.”

However, Sidney said those attempts had not resolved the problems between them.

“Unfortunately my mother is unable to recognize that she is in the wrong and continues to put blame on everything else.”

Sidney also argued that Tamra’s public expressions of sadness over their estrangement did not reflect what Sidney felt had happened privately.

Her Facebook statement followed another disagreement involving her high school graduation in 2017.

Sidney had invited Tamra to attend the ceremony, but later claimed her mother violated an agreement to keep the event private by sharing photographs on social media.

For Sidney, the incident reinforced her belief that her mother was not respecting the boundaries she had established.

Tamra publicly denied Sidney’s allegations of abuse and neglect and maintained that she loved her daughter and wanted to repair their relationship.

The statement generated significant attention at the time because Sidney had largely remained outside the Housewives spotlight despite her mother discussing their strained relationship on television.

Nearly a decade later, the same family dispute has become part of another RHOC confrontation.

During the latest episode, Tamra made it clear that she was deeply hurt by Vicki bringing up her estrangement from Sidney.

Vicki, meanwhile, maintained that her comments were based on Sidney’s own public statements rather than something she had invented.

That distinction appears to be at the heart of their disagreement.

While Vicki believes Sidney’s published account is relevant, Tamra feels that other Housewives referencing her daughter during arguments turns an already painful family matter into ammunition.

Tamra revisited the subject during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, where she became emotional again.

“Whenever somebody gets mad at me, their go-to is, ‘Your daughter hates you,’” Tamra said.

“It’s so much deeper than that. I hope that we can put this to rest. It’s a family situation that is not good; it’s sad, and it’s horrible.”

Tamra also opened up about how much Shannon Beador’s support meant to her during the Tokyo trip.

Despite their rocky friendship, Tamra said Shannon has never used her estrangement from Sidney against her.

“There was a scene, they didn’t show it, where I said, ‘You and I have gone through so much together, but you’ve never villainized me for the situation I’m going through,’” Tamra revealed.

The RHOC star has also shared a hopeful moment involving Sidney in recent years.

During the Season 19 reunion, Tamra revealed that Sidney had stopped by the house she shares with Eddie Judge while making lunch plans with her younger sister Sophia.

Tamra said they spent approximately 30 minutes talking before sharing an emotional goodbye.

“And then she said, ‘Mom, can I hug you goodbye?’ And she hugged me, and I just held onto her for so long,” Tamra recalled.

“I just said, ‘I can’t let you go. I just can’t let you go.’ And it was just a really, really special moment.”

Although Tamra has not confirmed that she and Sidney have fully reconciled, she has continued to express hope that their relationship can improve.
