Todd Tucker is getting candid about the emotional toll of his divorce from Kandi Burruss.
In a new interview with Page Six, Todd opened up about the painful and lonely moments he experienced after separating from the former Real Housewives of Atlanta star, admitting that the end of their marriage left him questioning everything.
“I’m gonna be honest, when we separated, I stayed in the guesthouse, which is just me in this big house by myself,” Todd shared. “My kids and the family are next door, and it was a lot of alone time.”
Todd said that isolation took him to a very dark place.
“It was a lot of time in my head, thinking, trying to figure out, ‘What did I just do? What just happened? Did I lose my family?’” he said. “So I’m gonna be honest, I had nobody really to lean on.”
Todd also addressed a heartbreaking moment from his upcoming docuseries, Til Divorce Do Us Part, where he admitted he “looked at [his] gun” during one of his lowest points.
“But then I snapped out of it, like, ‘No, you have a family. You have kids that you have to see them through,’” Todd recalled.
Todd and Kandi share two children together, Ace, 10, and Blaze, 6. Todd is also dad to Kaela Tucker, 30, while Kandi is mom to Riley Burruss, 24, from previous relationships.
Since those painful moments, Todd says he has been trying to rebuild himself.
“It was a lot of dark times, but since then, I’ve been going to church, I’m about to find me a therapist and just take this journey of rebuilding myself, getting myself where I wanna be and being the best dad and the best co-parent and moving forward,” Todd said.
Todd’s new docuseries will show him having emotional conversations with other men, including familiar faces from RHOA. He said creating the project was not easy, but he felt it was important to finally speak.
“I think we men carry a lot of stress, we carry a lot inside, and sometimes, it’s too late,” Todd explained. “So I want guys to know, man, just get it out, speak to a therapist, however you got to get it out. Don’t try to bash anybody, don’t try and make anybody look bad, but just get it off your chest.”
Todd also said he feels he has the right to tell his side after being discussed publicly for years.
“I’ve been labeled everything in the book for over a decade on Housewives. And I’ve never really spoken, and I just wanna be heard,” he said. “And after that, I’ll go fade into the darkness, and you won’t hear nothing again.”
Todd also addressed the backlash he received after the trailer for his docuseries included a conversation about his and Kandi’s past sex life.
In the trailer, Peter Thomas asked Todd, “Is the threesome s–t for real for real?” Todd responded, “We did, we did. I would say [for] most of our marriage, we did.”
Kandi later slammed Todd for “choosing to sensationalize [their] sex life to stretch his five minutes of fame,” adding that “what consensually happens between a husband and wife in the privacy of their marriage is exactly that: private.”
Todd pushed back on that, arguing that Kandi had previously spoken publicly about their sex life on RHOA and through other projects.
“I gotta ask you a question: Do we have a private marital sex life?” Todd said. “You’ve heard it from her. So how private is it?”
Todd claimed he was not revealing anything new.
“So at the end of the day, I’m not throwing out there any new information,” he insisted. “I’m not out there doing a tell-all or naming any people or doing anything like that. It was just a conversation, and that’s really all it was.”
Todd also hinted that there was one specific “incident” involving another woman that contributed to the end of the marriage, which he says he will explain more in the docuseries.
According to Todd, friends encouraged him to buy Kandi flowers, but he felt their problems were much bigger than that.
“A lot of our friends were like, ‘Buy her flowers, buy her flowers.’ But I was like, ‘Hey, this is bigger than flowers,’” Todd said. “So I set up for us to go to therapy ’cause this was beyond buying flowers.”
Todd said he felt Kandi wanted him to address the immediate hurt before working on the deeper issues in the relationship.
“I just think when I saw she wasn’t willing to fight with me, I just thought that it’s probably best for me to just kind of bow out,” he said. “If she wants a divorce, give her the divorce.”
Still, Todd made it clear that walking away was not what he originally wanted.
“I made vows to be with her forever, and I would have stayed forever,” he said.
Todd said he accepts that sometimes relationships do not last forever, but added that he and Kandi continue to prioritize their children.
“We’re always fine with each other. There’s never any tension or anything,” Todd said. “Even though we may be pissed off or mad or feeling a way, we put it to the side for our kids.”
While Todd does not fully blame reality TV for the end of his marriage, he admits it “played a part.”
Now, Todd says he is focused on healing, fatherhood, co-parenting and finally sharing the side of the story he feels fans never got to hear.
