Leah Remini is joining The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 16 as a full-time diamond holder, bringing one of Bravo’s biggest celebrity additions into the Housewives universe.
According to TMZ, Leah recently signed on for the upcoming season, which is currently filming. Her casting comes as Bravo continues shaking up RHOBH with familiar faces, including Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles star Tracy Tutor, who also confirmed she is joining the cast. Tracy announced the news on Instagram last week, writing that Beverly Hills is home and that she is “likely to get into some trouble.”
Leah is best known for starring as Carrie Heffernan on The King of Queens, but her life off-screen may be even more headline-making than her sitcom career.
For years, Leah has been one of Hollywood’s most outspoken former Scientologists. She left the Church of Scientology in 2013 and later became one of its most high-profile critics, writing the memoir Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology and hosting the Emmy-winning docuseries Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. In interviews, Leah has said Tom Cruise and the 2006 Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes wedding played a major role in her break with the church.
Remini has also spoken publicly about the tension surrounding that wedding, including her claim that Scientology wanted her to bring Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony as guests. The Church of Scientology has denied and disputed Leah’s claims over the years.
That history alone makes Remini a fascinating RHOBH addition. Beverly Hills has always been the Housewives city where Hollywood, image, status and behind-the-scenes power collide. Leah walks in with decades of celebrity connections, a public feud with one of the most powerful institutions in Hollywood, and absolutely no reputation for staying quiet.
She also has a major connection to Jennifer Lopez. Leah and J.Lo have been close friends for years, with both women speaking publicly about their bond. They even starred together in the 2018 film Second Act, and Leah has described their friendship as extremely close.
As for whether Leah knows any of the Beverly Hills Housewives, that is where things get interesting. Leah has been part of the Los Angeles celebrity world for decades, so it would not be surprising if she has crossed paths with several women in the RHOBH orbit. Kyle Richards, Kathy Hilton, Jennifer Tilly, Erika Jayne, Dorit Kemsley and Sutton Stracke all move in overlapping Hollywood, Beverly Hills and entertainment circles. However, there does not appear to be a widely documented close friendship between Leah and a current RHOBH cast member.
That may actually work in her favor.
Remini is not coming in as someone’s obvious sidekick. She is coming in as her own name, with her own history, her own opinions and her own fanbase.
Season 16 is already shaping up to be a major reset. Season 15 featured Kyle Richards, Erika Jayne, Dorit Kemsley, Sutton Stracke, Bozoma Saint John, Rachel Zoe and Amanda Frances, with Kathy Hilton, Jennifer Tilly and Natalie Swanston Fuller appearing as friends of the cast.
Since then, the Beverly Hills headlines have only gotten messier. Dorit and PK Kemsley’s divorce has become increasingly public. Kyle is still navigating life after her separation from Mauricio Umansky. Tracy Tutor is entering the group from the Bravo real estate world. And now, Leah Remini is reportedly walking in with the kind of blunt personality that could immediately shift the cast dynamic.
Leah has built a career on saying exactly what she thinks. Whether she is talking about Hollywood, Scientology, Tom Cruise or her personal life, she is not known for filtering herself.
That is exactly why she could be a perfect fit for Beverly Hills.
RHOBH has had plenty of glamour, wealth and famous names. But what the show always needs is someone willing to cut through the polished image and say the uncomfortable thing out loud.
Leah Remini may be that person.
And if her casting is any indication, Bravo is not playing it safe with Season 16.
