Jasmine Goode is trying to clarify her comments after facing backlash for saying she was “so sick of the kids” during The Valley reunion, a comment that did not sit well with viewers considering the show is largely built around couples navigating marriage, parenting and family life.
The backlash intensified after Jasmine also pushed back on sleep deprivation being used to explain someone’s behavior, saying, “Just because you don’t have sleep doesn’t mean you become an asshole.”
Viewers were especially frustrated watching Jasmine roll her eyes while Nia Sanchez Booko opened up about being postpartum, exhausted and overwhelmed while caring for multiple young children.
Nia, who has been open about the stress of having a newborn while also parenting three other kids, explained why she was struggling during that season of life. From sleep deprivation to postpartum hormones to breastfeeding and the baby not taking a bottle, fans felt Nia was simply trying to explain the reality of what she was going through.
Instead, Jasmine’s reaction came across to many viewers as dismissive.
The comments sparked immediate backlash online, with fans pointing out that The Valley has always centered around this group navigating adulthood, marriage, friendships and parenting. So hearing Jasmine say she was “so sick of the kids” felt especially off to viewers.
After the criticism, Jasmine took to Threads to clarify her intention.
“I just want to clarify, I am absolutely empathizing that parenthood is challenging!!” Jasmine wrote.
She continued, “I don’t have kids yet, but I can see how incredibly tiring it is. I hope to have children soon and I can only imagine what it will be like and hope I am given grace.”
Jasmine then explained that her issue was not with parents being tired or overwhelmed, but with people using parenthood as what she viewed as the main explanation for their behavior.
“My only intention was that I wish people wouldn’t constantly use that as the primary reason for their behavior,” she added.
Still, fans are not letting the moment go.
Many viewers felt Jasmine’s clarification did not match what they saw during the reunion. The issue for fans was not simply that Jasmine disagreed with Danny or Nia. It was the way she appeared to react while Nia was speaking about postpartum exhaustion.
Several viewers felt that Nia deserved more grace, especially as a mother who was only months postpartum and trying to navigate the emotional, physical and mental toll that comes with having a newborn and multiple young children at home.
The conversation also came after Danny Booko apologized and took accountability for his behavior. Despite that, viewers noticed several cast members continued to criticize both Danny and Nia, while also suggesting that people were afraid to say anything negative about them.
For many fans, Jasmine’s “so sick of the kids” comment missed the entire point of The Valley. The show is not just about partying or friend group drama. A major part of the series is watching these couples adjust to real life, including marriage, babies, exhaustion and the pressure that comes with raising children.
