Andy Cohen is responding after a Bravo fan questioned why so many conservative women are featured on The Real Housewives.
The Watch What Happens Live host took to Threads for an impromptu Q&A while on a plane, writing, “On a plane and up for Q/A to kill some time if you wanna post some Q’s below ….”
One fan used the opportunity to ask Andy about the political leanings of certain Housewives, specifically mentioning The Real Housewives of Orange County.
“Why so many MAGA women??” the fan asked. “I can’t watch OC anymore because of them.”
Andy responded by defending the need for different viewpoints on Bravo, while making it clear that Housewives is ultimately not supposed to be a political show.
“If we didn’t showcase people with different POV’s there would be no show,” Andy wrote. “Also it’s a show about the women and their relationships, not about politics.”
Andy’s response quickly sparked conversation because politics has become a bigger talking point among Bravo fans in recent years, especially as viewers debate whether certain cast members’ personal beliefs affect how they watch the show.
While The Real Housewives has never been marketed as a political franchise, the cast members are real people with real opinions, backgrounds and beliefs. And as Andy pointed out, part of the format depends on bringing together women with different personalities, lifestyles and points of view.
For Andy, the main focus remains the women and their relationships, not their politics.
