Gizelle Bryant loves filming confessionals.
The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th cast is pulling back the curtain on what really goes down during confessional days.
While sitting down with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM to promote The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th, Teresa Giudice, Kyle Richards, Vicki Gunvalson, Luann de Lesseps and Gizelle Bryant opened up about filming confessionals — and not everyone feels the same way about them.
Andy asked the women how they view confessional days, noting that some Housewives hate filming them.
Luann did not hesitate.
“Torture, torture, torture,” Luann said.
Teresa, however, has a very different approach.
“I don’t mind them,” Teresa said. “I make it like a date night afterwards.”
Andy pointed out that Teresa is already fully glam by the time confessionals wrap.
“Oh, you’re all done up,” Andy said.
Teresa explained that she makes the most of it.
“I go out with the girls, you know, my husband,” Teresa shared.
Gizelle also admitted that she actually enjoys confessionals.
“I love it,” Gizelle said.
When Andy asked if she really loves it, Gizelle confirmed she does — because it gives her a chance to say exactly what she is thinking.
“Yes, I do,” Gizelle said. “I sit there and I trash everyone and I laugh and it’s amazing.”
Luann joked that she takes a more polite approach.
“And I try to be polite,” Luann said.
Kyle then explained why confessional days can be so draining. According to the RHOBH OG, they feel similar to reunion days because the women are fully dressed up and stuck in a chair for hours.
“You know, you’re sitting in a dress like the reunion all day in a chair,” Kyle said.
When Andy asked how long the interviews usually last, Kyle simply said, “All day.”
Vicki added that the glam process itself is already a major time commitment.
“Two hours of hair and makeup,” Vicki said.
Luann said the entire process can take around six hours.
“It’s like a six-hour day,” Luann shared.
Andy then asked how many confessional days the Housewives usually film per season.
Kyle explained, “I think we do three looks, and each look like four times.”
Luann added that for Ultimate Girls Trip, they did even more.
“This one, we did like five,” Luann said.
Kyle also explained one of the trickiest parts of filming confessionals: the timing. The producers may ask them about drama that already happened weeks or months earlier, even though the relationships may have changed by then.
“They’re also asking you about people and that you’re like, still mad at now, that you made up on,” Kyle explained. “They’re asking you when you were being nice, and you’re like, ‘I don’t like her right now.’ Or vice versa. Like, ‘I already forgot about that fight.’”
Luann said watching confessionals later can be just as shocking, especially when you thought things were good with someone.
“Oh, what about watching them on TV?” Luann said. “It’s like, ‘I thought that bitch liked me.’ You know what I mean?”
Vicki joked that sometimes she feels like filming confessionals is a waste of time because production will not use everything anyway.
“They’re not going to use it all right,” Vicki said. “I’m wasting time here. I got to get going.”
Luann agreed that the worst part is realizing someone was saying things behind your back while you thought the relationship was fine.
“That’s the worst,” Luann said. “You’re thinking you have a good relationship, and you know, talking behind your back.”
Teresa then revealed a production tactic that longtime Housewives fans have probably suspected for years.
“They ask us the same question over and over and over again to see if we say it different ways,” Teresa said. “And then they use the juiciest one.”
The conversation gave fans a funny but very real look at one of the most important parts of making Real Housewives.
Confessionals may look effortless on television, but according to the women, they involve hours of glam, long interview days, repeated questions and plenty of shade.
