Denise Richards is reportedly facing one of the darkest chapters of her life as those closest to her fear the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star is emotionally unraveling behind the scenes.
The actress and reality star has allegedly been struggling to keep it together following the heartbreaking death of longtime former love Patrick Muldoon while simultaneously dealing with her messy split from estranged husband Aaron Phypers. Insiders claim the emotional toll has become overwhelming.
“Denise is an extremely tough cookie but she’s been through so much recently,” an insider revealed to Radar Online. “Patrick’s passing really tipped her over the edge. She’s been in floods of tears on a daily basis. There are so many things she wanted to say to him and the fact he’s gone is something she simply can’t move past.”
Richards and Muldoon shared a deep history that stretched back decades. The pair first met during acting classes when she was just 19 years old and he was 21. Their romance lasted five years and they famously appeared together in the 1997 cult classic Starship Troopers.
After Muldoon’s reported passing at age 57 on April 19, Denise publicly mourned him with an emotional tribute that left fans heartbroken.
“You were my best friend & my family. My whole adult life & I don’t know it without you,” she wrote.
At the same time, Denise has reportedly been buried in legal drama surrounding her divorce from Aaron Phypers. Their split turned ugly after Richards accused him of abuse and sources say the financial and emotional fallout has drained her completely.
“The divorce from Aaron has cost Denise an absolute fortune and sapped her time and energy,” another source claimed. “She’s also still recovering from her major procedure. That may sound trivial to some but it’s a big deal for Denise. She’s had to navigate a long and painful road.”
Despite everything, friends say Denise has not been alone during the crisis. Her ex husband Charlie Sheen has reportedly stepped up alongside daughters Sami and Lola as well as her adopted daughter Eloise.
“Charlie has been a total rock for Denise. He and other loved ones are imploring her to get all the help she can during this time,” a pal shared. “Their preference is a wellness facility where Denise can learn tools to cope and find a way to heal emotionally.”
Still, Denise’s camp is pushing back hard against claims that she is spiraling. Her rep denied reports suggesting she has hit rock bottom.
“While she is understandably upset over the loss of her friend, there is no downward spiral. She has been working and in production on upcoming projects as well as promoting her film with Patrick.”
Even so, insiders insist her loved ones remain deeply concerned.
“Trying to handle all this on her own or without help simply isn’t working,” the friend added. “The consensus is that Denise now needs to call in the pros.”
Between devastating grief, an explosive divorce battle and ongoing recovery from surgery, fans are now wondering whether Denise Richards can truly weather the storm or if this is only the beginning of an even more troubling chapter.
