Dakota Mortensen is speaking out as his ongoing legal situation with ex Taylor Frankie Paul continues to unfold.
In a statement shared with Us Weekly on March 19, Dakota addressed the recent headlines and allegations surrounding their relationship.
“As anyone who has seen the video will understand, this is a deeply upsetting situation,” he said.
He went on to deny the claims being made against him.
“I am, unfortunately, used to these baseless claims about me and our relationship, which I categorically deny.”
Dakota added that his focus right now is on their child.
“I am focusing on our son and his safety, and hope that Taylor will do the same.”
His statement came shortly after reports surfaced that he filed a protective order against Taylor in Utah and requested temporary custody of their son.
At the same time, Taylor’s team released a statement offering a very different perspective.
“Taylor is very grateful for ABC’s support as she prioritizes her family’s safety and security,” her rep said.
The statement alleged a long history of abuse.
“After years of silently suffering extensive mental and physical abuse as well as threats of retaliation, Taylor is finally gaining the strength to face her accuser.”
Her team also claimed she had remained quiet out of fear.
“Taylor has remained silent out of fear of further abuse, retaliation, and public shaming.”
The situation escalated further after footage obtained by TMZ resurfaced, showing a past altercation between the two. The incident, which occurred in 2023, led to Taylor’s arrest on multiple charges, including aggravated assault.
She later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, while the remaining charges were dismissed.
Taylor has since responded, saying the public doesn’t have the full story.
“It’s been hard. And it sucks to be in this position,” she said.
“I believe that I am a good mother and I have always treated my kids very well… the headlines that are out right now are very hard to see because that’s not the truth of it.”
She also called the timing of the situation especially difficult.
“It’s another premiere that’s been taken away from me,” she said, referring to her upcoming projects.
Dakota’s team has denied that he was behind the release of the footage or the timing of the news.
“His number one priority here is protecting [their son], Ever,” his rep said.
“He has always wanted a decent relationship with Taylor… he wants to coparent well.”
The statement added that Dakota has typically stayed quiet but now feels he can’t.
“He’s never done any kind of sit-down interview about his side… but I think he realizes with the severity of everything now that he just can’t do that.”
As the situation continues to develop, both sides are standing firm in their claims — with legal action and an active investigation still underway.
