During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Reality Checked, Kate Chastain and Dorinda Medley shared their candid reactions to the news that Carole is coming back as a “friend-of” on the revamped RHONY.

Kate didn’t hold back her enthusiasm.

“Personally, I liked the new RHONY enough. Like I liked, I didn’t dislike it. And I always liked Carole. I thought her fashion was quirky and cool. I thought like she’s kind of like a real life Carrie Bradshaw type like I’m a writer girl. Dorinda, what do you think?”

Dorinda admitted she was caught off guard.

“I think that it is interesting.”

She added that she was surprised by how quietly Carole handled the announcement.

“I’m surprised I knew nothing about it and we’re quite close. So she kept it very, her cards very close to her chest. I just don’t, I don’t know if she knows any of the girls.”

Kate wondered aloud what motivated the return.

“What do you think she’s doing? She misses it? She had fun and she loved it?”

Dorinda offered her own theory.

“You know, I think that Carole’s just a New York character and she’s very close to Andy and she had such a great comeback on ‘Watch What Happens Live’ and BravoCon and I think the show needs a character, something to sort of unify it back to the old a little bit.”

Kate summed it up in one word: “A bridge.”

“Yes, a bridge,” Dorinda agreed. “And she’s a great bridge. She’s very New York. I was surprised she came on as a friend-of. I think she should be fulltime.”

Kate echoed that sentiment. “She’s forever cool. Like she’s so cool.”

Still, Dorinda questioned whether a friend-of role made sense.

“But a friend-of, that’s too little. She should be, you know, I don’t know if I could as a full-time housewife go back and be a friend-of with these new girls.”

Kate floated a different possibility.

“Maybe she wants to be low commitment to see how it goes. Like maybe it’s her choice to be like, ‘Let me just try dip my toe in and then and then maybe I’ll be full-time season.’”

Dorinda admitted the move felt unexpected given Carole’s past comments about the show.

“But I didn’t see that coming because, you know, after she left, she didn’t seem to like it anymore. You know what I mean?”

Kiki Monique agreed.

“And well, she even said at BravoCon that she, you know, because she was asked straight up like like, ‘Would you want to come back?’ And she’s like, ‘I don’t think that life is for me anymore.’ So I mean I felt like this was like super surprise, but I also think people expected it because she was at BravoCon. We were kind of like, ‘Why are you at BravoCon?’”

Dorinda laughed. “Yeah, exactly.”

As for whether Dorinda has reached out since the news broke?

“No, I just found out when they did.”

When Kate asked if she’d text Carole, Dorinda kept it simple.

“Probably not.”

“I mean, if she wanted to tell me, she would tell me, right?”

Beyond the surprise factor, Dorinda also questioned how Carole would fit into the new cast dynamic.

“I think it’s probably, I think it’s going to be interesting to see because the girls are a lot younger. And it’s a different world than the world she was. She really kind of knew us. But I just don’t know. I don’t know the new show anymore.”

She continued, “I think these, you know, these girls are young married having kids you know like we could be their mothers almost.”

Still, Dorinda noted that Carole’s lifestyle may give her an edge.

“The only thing that’s good about Carole, Carole has this forever youthful thing because she’s never had kids and things. So, she’s kind of always been very that downtown hip. Well, she’s kind of like a Jenna Lyons.”

Kate quickly agreed. “She’s so cool.”

While Bravo insiders are debating whether Carole will serve as a “bridge” between old and new RHONY, viewers online are having a different conversation.

Since news of her return broke, some fans have resurfaced old photos and reports linking Carole socially to Ghislaine Maxwell, who was later convicted in connection to Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking case. The images, which date back years, have circulated before, but her Bravo comeback has brought renewed scrutiny on social media especially with files recently released.

To be clear, Carole has never been accused of wrongdoing in relation to that case. Still, the association has become part of the online discourse surrounding her return, with some viewers questioning whether Bravo anticipated the renewed attention.

For now, Carole’s role is limited to “friend-of,” but the reaction suggests her presence will spark conversation beyond typical Housewives drama.

Whether she becomes the “bridge” Dorinda described or finds herself navigating unexpected controversy, one thing is certain: Carole Radziwill’s return to RHONY is already anything but quiet.
