Vicki Gunvalson Says Bravo Should Be Done With RHONJ if It’s Going to Be Completely Revamped

Vicki Gunvalson, a long-time star of The Real Housewives of Orange County, recently weighed in on the swirling casting rumors surrounding The Real Housewives of New Jersey. As speculation grows that RHONJ may undergo a major revamp, Vicki Gunvalson shared her candid thoughts.

When asked about the potential casting changes on her podcast, My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast, Vicki revealed she isn’t too keen on the idea of a completely new cast like what happened with The Real Housewives of New York City. “I have no desire to watch a whole new cast,” Vicki said, pointing out the difficulty of getting invested in a group of strangers. “I don’t know who they are, why they are, I know nothing about it… you get invested in the original castmates’ lives, and then it’s like all of a sudden, poof they’re gone.”

Her frustration is understandable, as RHONY underwent a major overhaul when the show replaced its original stars, and Vicki isn’t ready for RHONJ to follow suit. Instead, she suggested that if Bravo is serious about reworking the show, they should at least bring back more than just two original cast members—otherwise, it might be time to call it quits altogether saying that if Bravo decides to do that – it should “be done,” at that point.

The buzz around RHONJ’s future casting also ties into a report claiming that Teresa Giudice might be getting a spinoff, leaving the rest of the current cast members behind. RHONJ fans are left wondering what’s next for the series, with Vicki observing that Bravo does have a system in place. She explained that part of the casting rule involves notifying returning castmates within six months of their final episode—something she confirmed as being “pretty true” based on her own experiences.

However, while she enjoys the familiar faces, Vicki admitted that the endless drama can sometimes get repetitive. “I get tired of the same fights over and over again,” she said, adding that she’s open to new faces but only if it’s done thoughtfully.

In the end, it seems that while Vicki Gunvalson appreciates the idea of a fresh shakeup, she’s hesitant to embrace a complete reboot without keeping more of the essence of what made RHONJ great in the first place. For her, it’s about balance—if Bravo wants to change things up, they might need to consider a better blend of old and new.

Whether RHONJ will go through a full overhaul or stick to a more familiar formula remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: fans like Vicki are deeply invested in the show’s legacy, and they’re not ready to see it disappear completely.

I can't imagine Bravo repeating the same mistake they made by totally rebooting RHONY, but I'm probably giving them too much credit. Also, I think Andy's is more personally invested with Teresa and the Gorgas considering all they've been through together.

I am totally on Vicki’s side of this argument. I tried the re-vamp NYC and just couldn’t connect or care about the new cast. Like many of fellow posters, I humbly miss the old days of RHW shows. The new format is too contrived and fake beyond words can express.

Bravo should have started a new franchise with the new cast...maybe HWs of Manhattan or something but not New York. It was hard to watch. I think I only watched two episodes and parts of the last reunion.

Vicki would change her tune is Bravo offered her the chance to move to NJ and be part of the new line up. But then, Vicki would change her tune if she thought she'd get more attention by supporting the shake up.

I completely agree with Vicki. I didn’t watch the last season of the pre-reboot NY because Eboni was insufferable, but prior to that I’d watched every single NY season religiously. I haven’t watched any of the reboot and it’s not even because I’m disappointed in the casting decision, which I am, it’s just that I don’t care. I don’t know any of those women. It’s an old show that I expect to watch and see elements of every previous season. I can’t do that anymore. Viewers (me) have zero connection to the new women.

Funny, I too hated S13 when it aired, but I recently rewatched it and enjoyed it. EKW was insufferable for sure, but through it all, she still had a certain appeal. Also, I sensed that they truly bonded in the end, but unfortunately that was short-lived when EKW went after Ramona, solely based on hearsay.
