Former Real Housewives of New York City star Dorinda Medley is opening up about how she cried her eyes out when she was put on “pause” more than four years ago.

But Dorinda Medley is grateful that viewers still have interest in her returning to the show. Speaking to US weekly, Dorinda says, “I always find it hysterical that fans think we have something to do about it.”

Dorinda asks viewers to reach out to Andy Cohen because he’s the only person who can make it happen.
She says, “I was at a meet and greet last night and someone asked, ‘Would you ever?’ Listen, I’m open to all opportunities. I loved my time on Bravo. I cried my eyes out when they let me go. I’m not gonna lie. I’m not one of these people that made a statement that said I decided to take some time off. I don’t wanna go
While the reboot of the Real Housewives of New York isn’t as popular, Dorinda says she is watching saying, “I feel both intrusive and protective. It’s something I was on so I deal with it very gingerly and people love to do comparisons and make it negative. And I always just say, ‘Listen, it’s not like they chose one over the other. They decided to get rid of one and start this new.’ I say this with kindness, but the crown was heavy. The girls had a very strong legacy and people are very sentimental and committed to them.”

The original RHONY is still my go to guilty pleasure. I'm currently on Slurinda's last season (12) where she apparently relapsed and got so ugly again. She was simply deplorable towards sweet Tinsley, and every time she says to Lu, "At least I didn't get a mugshot", I want Lu to slap that annoying smirk off her face, but good ol' Lu always forgives her. Apparently Andy did not.
Bravo said “ CLIP”…
Fair to say she was probably hammered and over emotional at the time.
Dorinda was as fresh as rain when she started on the show but once we got to know her, she became a horrid drunk who ruined every scene she was in. She was rude, self-centered and mean. I would love to see her come back to be mortified by the new crew, and then sent on her way…
Dorinda does possess some redeeming qualities but she's a mean drunk and the only people who defend her are just like her.
Her cons outweigh the pros now , which is unfortunate because in beginning she made me chuckle
She can be funny for sure
This is another one a la Shannon Beador who will not recognize that alcohol is NOT her friend. There was A LOT about Dorinda I came to appreciate, but her vicious drunken tirades weren’t among them. I have no desire ZERO, ZILCH, ZIP interest in seeing a repeat of that Puerto Rico fiasco the woman had the unmitigated gall to make Bethenny endure. I’m not saying a ? sober Dorinda or Shannon is the ONLY way I can stomach either of them, but…? https://media4.giphy.com/media/Xk5jQmjZW7X2swemPF/giphy-downsized-small.mp4
Even on the RHUGT Season 2 she was so drunk she had to be carried out of that restaurant in the Berkshires. No one could understand a word she was saying. Miraculously she always rallies by the next morning fresh as a bird. What is up with that? Most would be unconscious for days.
I wonder what her hangover cure is? ? Or does she just not get them anymore? ? Say what you will about Dorinda BUT that woman has a liver of iron, I tells ya, cuz now that you mention it, I can’t remember ever having seen a hungover Dorinda! ????
I know…what's up with that? Maybe an oxygen canister? Some firefighters say that they take a blast the next morning after heavy drinking and it makes them right as rain. ?
Maybe she was drinking liquid IV before it hit the market
Drinking is what killed Dorinda's second husband, the sainted Richard Medley, who died of liver failure at age 60. That happens to people who drink and end up with a liver the size of a sea mammal. You look at pictures of him and he has that tell-tale ruddy, veiny complexion of the hard drinker. That, I think, is what is the story with Dorinda. At this point I think her body would fail without the alcohol. Then there's the fact that she is a nasty bitch when sober (re-watch her first season and really watch and listen) and one of the meanest drunks I've ever seen when she's wasted. I, for one, do not find abusive people entertaining.
Fun fact: The SATC character Susan Sharon was based on Dorinda and her first husband, Ralph Lynch. In fact, it was Candace Bushnell to whom Dorinda famously replied on RHONY, "I'll tell you how I'm doing…not good, bitch!" when asked how she was doing.
?Wow thanks for that. I had no idea Dorinda was so well known. I love SATC…or rather the old SATC. She really is a mean drunk which means she has that streak in her even sober. But how the heck does she look so good given how much she consumes? And is able to function the very next day. It's crazy.
I think she might be what’s known (used to be anyway) as a, ‘functioning alcoholic.”
Slurinda .
Lovely to see you Helen! Spot on about Dorinda . Thx for the hubby info, I did not know that . Shame
And you as well, Michers – dahling! It’s been awhile for sure. Hope you and yours have a happy, healthy holiday season!
Thank you – hope the same to you and your’s !
Wow, that's interesting. I'm surprised it never came up on the show. Ramona used to glorify the hell out of Saint Richard. I suppose she was just being kind.
I think their relationship previous to their being cast on the show (and this holds true, I think, pretty much across the entire RH franchise) defines superficiality as most of their previous interaction consisted of socializing at the same events – knowing the same people. Are the repeat acquaintances you make on a party circuit really your friends? To me a friend is someone I can call at pre-dawn hours and say, I need you – now – and they’re there. No questions, no excuses.
As for Ramona she was just gilding Dorinda’s lily much as she did with anyone with whom she sought to curry favor/allegiance.
Exactly … it was so evident that her drinking got only worse since she had been let go and she and John broke up. It's easy to imagine her rattling around Blue Stone Manor at 2am with a vodka stinger in her hand calling out to John. #Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte

?I know I shouldn't laugh but she really is such a mean bitch at times.
IKR? Personally, I’m such a goofy and happy drunk when I drink (which is rare), so I’ve never had any patience for mean drunks. Defeats the purpose for me.
Yep, on the plane ride home, Bethenny clearly called Dorinda "a" drunk (as a noun), but at the reunion she said she "was" drunk (using drunk as an adjective) … and the weird thing is, I don't recall anyone calling her out on it, not even Andy.
And iirc, Dorinda used a VERY similar counter argument to Bethenny calling her a drunk as Shannon did, saying that she (Dorinda) did not believe herself to be an alcoholic (sure Jan), but that she was unhappy and maybe using alcohol to cope. And look, I don’t doubt loads and loads of people who are NOT alcoholics do just that sometimes and to a degree BUT when you have an established pattern of it? THEN on top of that you’re a mean, sloppy drunk? Girl, bye. ??
I can always spot a literal "alcoholic", and have a similar gift for detecting Alzheimer's. I would bet the farm that Dorinda and Shannon both have problems with alcohol that needs to be addressed professionally. I would categorize Shannon at a level 7.5, and Dorinda at an 9 (out of 10).

I think you’re SPOT on! Alcohol is NOT a friend to either of those broads. And I seriously doubt either of them can pull a LuAnn (assuming even LuAnn did ?), meaning after a sustained (supposed) period of sobriety, going back to controlled, very moderate drinking.
It seems MAYBE LuAnn was able to do this and some people are, but I’d literally be shocked out of my tree if Dorinda could EVER do this…and Shannon is not convincing me she’s a candidate either. BUT tbf, I thought Lu would be back to falling in rose bushes and threatening to kill cops again by now and she apparently ain’t, so what do I know? ????
I was actually tempted to diagnose Lu in my post as well, but like you said she seems to have found the right balance, although she’s had her share of relapses as well.
Bravo's biggest mistake was putting Dorinda on pause.
Bravo’s biggest mistake was that sh*t fest of a RHONY reboot! Every last executive at Bravo should be rounded up and shipped off to the gulag (never to be heard from again) with their poster boy, Andy Cohen himself, first in line for committing THAT unthinkable and unforgivable abomination! <— Yes, I’m still THAT bitter! ?
