Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards has had one hell of a year and not in a good way. The reality star not only struggled with her sobriety, leading to a major relapse, she also was arrested for public intoxication after an outburst at the Beverly Hills Hotel. While Kim has spent the last several months in and out of rehab facilities, she is finally opening up about her arrest and her struggle with alcohol.

In a new interview with ET, Kim reveals that she truly loves being sober.“I love sobriety. I’ve always loved sobriety, and relapsing was very hard for me. It was not easy. I have to say, don’t take this wrong, but I really wanted to go to treatment because I needed a break from what I was going through at home.”

Kim cites family stress as one of the main reasons for her relapse.“Monty, my ex-husband, is very sick, and my son wasn’t well. And I had to give away my dog, and I wasn’t talking to my sister [Kyle Richards].”

Perhaps the fourth time is the charm for the reality star who recently fully completed her fourth rehab stay in one year. Kim also reveals that she has been sober for more than thirty days. “I went in, and I got to learn a whole lot about myself. I dug deep into my past, things that happened to me as a child, good and bad, teenage years, relationships with all my loved ones, where they need to be mended, where they’re very powerful. I worked on me.”

Kim reveals that her “a-ha” moment, where she knew she needed treatment, was when she was arrested. “Actually, my arrest was my ‘a-ha’ I get to go away now and rest and take a break from all this. I don’t want anybody to take this wrong, but I truly needed a break from hospitals, family, the pressure. I needed to go away.”

While Kim has struggled with sobriety in the past, she now has a sober living plan. Kim says she has a “wonderful” sponsor, a life coach, and “a great home group and sober friends” to help keep her on track.

As for a possible return to RHOBH Kim reveals that she hasn’t discussed it with producers because she’s been focusing on her treatment, but she does say they’ve asked her back for next season. “My representative did speak to them. They have asked me to come back.”

Lastly, Kim does confirm that she did not attend her niece Nicky Hilton’s wedding in London saying,“I decided to stay in treatment.”
