For the first time in Dancing With the Stars history, the show was forced to disqualify Kim Zolciak and her partner Tony Dovolani. The disqualification came after Kim’s doctor advised her not fly from Atlanta to L.A. following her mini-stroke, which ultimately prevented her from performing on Monday night.
While the dancing partners begged the show to give them another chance, DWTS host Tom Bergeron said Kim’s return would involve lawyers as the rules about illnesses and health issues are absolute.
Many fans wonder if this is a rule that’s meant to be broken given the circumstances.
After Monday’s episode, E! caught up with some of the DWTS cast and asked them whether or not the show should bend the rules for Kim. While some competitors were supportive of Kim coming back, other said rules are rules.
Mark Ballas doesn’t believe that Kim should be allowed to return.“If it’s in the contract, it’s in the contract. If it’s in the rules, it’s in the rules. We’ve had people withdraw before, just not in this fashion. What are you going to do? The reality is health and family come first. It’s not easy. Yeah, it’s a fun show, but it’s very physical.”
Not everyone agreed with Mark’s strict interpretation of the rules.
DTWS alum Derek Hough is supportive of Kim getting another shot saying, “If they wanted to have her come back, I’d absolutely be fine with that.”
Carols Penavega also would like to see the show give Kim a second chance.“I’m really happy that she chose her health, and she chose to be with her family. I do feel badly; this show takes a lot out of you…I’d give her another shot!”
