Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga are opening up about how they finally repaired their fractured family relationship after years of fighting on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, revealing that the reconciliation began with an unexpected text message from Teresa to her brother, Joe Gorga.

In a joint interview with Us Weekly, the sisters-in-law reflected on the years of resentment that divided their family, the role their children played in bringing them back together and the emotional meeting that ultimately changed everything.
The reconciliation comes after RHONJ was placed on pause following an explosive Season 14, which saw the cast divided into opposing groups and Teresa and Melissa refusing to engage with one another.
For Teresa, the break from filming was necessary.
“I knew it was going to happen eventually because there’s no way it could continue,” Teresa said of the show’s pause. “We really didn’t have the same friends in the group.”
Melissa agreed that the cast had become too divided.
“It was very divided, so that didn’t help,” Melissa explained. “We both spoke to Dolores, but she was even saying, ‘Just stay apart.’”
Teresa admitted she was relieved when filming stopped because she believed the environment had become unhealthy.
“I’m glad we were because we needed to,” Teresa said. “It was disgusting the way it was going. It was an attack on me and Louie. It was horrible for three years straight.”
Melissa acknowledged that Teresa felt attacked but pointed out that she had experienced similar feelings.
“I felt like everyone was calling me a cheater and was attacking me,” Melissa said. “Everybody was upset at the time.”
While both women had their own reasons for holding onto resentment, Teresa revealed that her decision to reconcile came after filming Special Forces with her oldest daughter, Gia Giudice.
According to Teresa, Gia encouraged her to let go of the anger she still carried toward her ex-husband, Joe Giudice, over their legal troubles.
“She said to me, ‘Maybe Special Forces will help you let go of some of the resentment toward Daddy,’ because of the situation that her dad put me in with all the legal stuff,” Teresa recalled.
Teresa said the conversation made her realize she needed to move forward for her daughters.
“I was like, ‘I have to do this for her. I have to let it go.’ And I have.”
Although Teresa admitted she still occasionally feels angry about the past, she said she and Joe Giudice are now in a good place.
She also reflected on her time in prison, maintaining that she never intentionally committed a crime.
“My story never changes. That’s the goddamn truth,” Teresa said. “But they made an example out of me and I walk with my head up high because I know I’m not a criminal.”
Teresa and Joe Giudice both pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges in 2014. Teresa served approximately 11 months in prison, while Joe served a longer sentence before being deported.
Looking back, Teresa said she now tries to embrace even the most difficult chapters of her life.
“Now I say, ‘Yeah, I went to jail. I’m a badass.’ Everybody says I have street cred.”
After working through some of that resentment, Teresa decided it was time to address her relationship with her brother.
“Since I was in a forgiving mood, I texted my brother,” Teresa revealed.
She explained that her daughters were a major reason she wanted to repair the family relationship.
“I just wanted peace for my daughters because I never wanted them to say to me, ‘Practice what you preach.’”
Teresa said she could not continue telling her children to avoid conflict while refusing to make peace with her own brother.
Melissa revealed that Teresa’s text came around September 2025 and completely caught Joe Gorga off guard.

“Joe was confused at first because it came out of nowhere,” Melissa explained. “He really wasn’t sure if he wanted to meet up with her.”
According to Melissa, Joe initially wanted all four of them, including Teresa’s husband Louie Ruelas, to meet together.
However, Teresa wanted her first conversation with Joe to be private.
Joe eventually agreed, and what happened next became a turning point for the family.
Melissa said she could immediately tell something had changed when her husband returned home.
“He came home and I could see it in his face,” Melissa recalled. “He looked like a little kid who got his big sister back.”
Seeing Joe so happy made Melissa realize she wanted to support the reconciliation.
“I have a heart, obviously, and I was like, ‘I’m never gonna keep you from your sister and your nieces.’”
Teresa then revealed that she had chosen a particularly meaningful location for her first meeting with Joe.
The siblings reunited at the cemetery mausoleum where their parents are buried.
“I wanted to show him it was a safe place and I’m coming from a good place,” Teresa explained.
Melissa admitted Joe was initially reluctant to meet there.
“He didn’t want to go to the cemetery,” Melissa said.
Teresa, however, insisted on the location.
“If you’re not coming there, then forget it,” Teresa recalled telling him.
Joe ultimately agreed.
For Teresa, meeting at their parents’ resting place was important because she wanted her brother to remember the bond they shared before reality television and years of fighting changed their relationship.
“We were best friends until the show happened,” Teresa said. “You know who I am. If I’m saying something, it’s coming from a good place.”
Melissa said the meeting seemed to have an immediate emotional impact on both siblings.
“Something clicked in them when they were together that they were able to let it go.”
After Teresa and Joe worked through their initial conversation, the family arranged a second meeting involving Melissa and Louie.
The four met at a park, where they spent several hours discussing the past.
“We talked it out for a couple hours; it wasn’t perfect right from the start,” Melissa admitted.
However, the conversation went well enough that they decided to go to lunch together afterward.
“We’ve been together ever since,” Melissa revealed.
Teresa said she wanted to address some of their previous problems rather than simply pretend they had never happened.
“He just wanted to move forward, and I was like, ‘So it doesn’t happen again, we need to be on the same page.’”
Teresa explained that therapy taught her the importance of boundaries, particularly when it comes to outside influences.
“Boundaries are very big because you just can’t jump into it again,” she said. “You don’t want outsiders to come in and ruin it again.”
Teresa also credited Louie with helping her learn to forgive.
“You know who taught me how to forgive? Louie,” she revealed.
“I’m stubborn, and Louie and I are both Tauruses, but he’s done a lot of work on himself. He’s a sweetheart, salt of the earth. And he was the one that helped me let things go too.”
Beyond their own relationship, Teresa and Melissa admitted their children were deeply affected by the family feud.
Teresa revealed that another emotional moment involving her youngest daughter, Audriana, helped motivate her to reach out to Joe.
According to Teresa, Audriana ran into her uncle at a party, and the two began crying.
“Audriana saw Joey at a party. They started crying,” Teresa recalled.
When Audriana told her mother what happened, Teresa said it broke her heart.
“It was like a knife in my heart.”
Melissa acknowledged that the estrangement had been painful for the cousins, who spent years growing up together before the family became divided.
“They grew up together for many years,” Melissa said.
However, she admitted that some of the children were initially skeptical about the reconciliation.
“My kids were a little more skeptical. They saw more…”
Melissa recalled hosting Christmas Eve at her home and watching her daughter Antonia and Teresa’s daughter Milania slowly reconnect.
“Antonia and Milania had a minute where they needed to warm up to each other again,” she said.
But by the end of the evening, the cousins were back to enjoying each other’s company.
“By the end of the night, they were making TikToks.”
Teresa said some of her daughters also needed reassurance that the reconciliation was genuine.
“Gabriella and Milania were a little like, ‘Are you sure?’” Teresa recalled.
However, she reassured them that she believed the family was finally moving in the right direction.
“Trust Mommy. Mommy knows best.”
The sisters-in-law also reflected on how much they have changed since joining RHONJ more than 15 years ago.
Teresa admitted that looking back at earlier seasons makes her cringe at some of the things she said.
“I can’t believe some of the things I said,” she acknowledged. “Now I know how to choose my words more wisely. But I still have the same beliefs. Family was always the most important thing.”
Melissa, who joined the show at 31, said viewers watched her grow into adulthood while navigating marriage, motherhood and family conflict.
“I kind of grew up in my adult years on the show,” she said, reflecting on going from having young children to now having a child in college.
Despite everything that happened between them, Melissa said the reconciliation has felt natural rather than forced.
“When we were all together, it just felt right,” she shared. “We all missed each other. It didn’t feel fake.”
For Teresa, the biggest motivation remains honoring the values her late parents instilled in her and Joe.
“My parents always instilled this in my brother and me: ‘You guys only have each other. Always be there for each other.’”
After years of feuding, the family appears determined not to repeat the same mistakes.
And while both Teresa and Melissa acknowledge that rebuilding their relationship has taken time, they say their renewed connection is rooted in something far more important than RHONJ: their children, their shared history and the family they nearly lost.
