Todd Tucker is taking accountability after his promotional post involving Shamea Morton’s intimate scene in his movie Don’t Bring Your Man To Atlanta went viral for all the wrong reasons.
During his sit-down with Big Tigger and Francesca Amiker, Todd addressed the online conversation surrounding Shamea’s steamy scene in the film and the reaction from her husband, Gerald Mwangi.
The scene became a topic on The Real Housewives of Atlanta after Gerald expressed discomfort with Shamea doing intimate acting scenes. Once the moment aired, Todd’s team edited RHOA footage together with footage from the actual movie scene, and the clip quickly went viral.
Todd admitted he knew combining the Housewives clip with the movie footage would bring more attention to the film.
But now, he says he regrets how he handled it.
“I apologized to Shamea on the radio and I apologize again,” Todd said.
Todd explained that he no longer watches Housewives regularly, but someone sent him a clip showing that his movie was being discussed on RHOA.
“I don’t watch Housewives anymore but there was a clip someone sent me and said yo they are talking about your movie. The sex scene in your movie and that her husband has a little feeling about it,” Todd said.
According to Todd, Don’t Bring Your Man To Atlanta had already screened roughly a year earlier, and Shamea was present. Todd said he asked at the time whether Gerald was okay with the scene.
“We did a screening for the movie over a year ago and Shamea was there and I asked if he is cool with it, Shamea’s husband,” Todd explained.
Todd said he was under the impression Gerald was fine with it, which is why he initially thought the RHOA conversation may have been heightened for TV.
“So when I got this clip I’m thinking maybe they were putting on for TV,” Todd said.
Still, Todd admitted he made a mistake by not reaching out to Shamea directly before posting.
“I should have called her. I didn’t call her,” Todd said.
Instead, Todd said he called someone on his team and had them edit the Housewives clip together with the sex scene from the film.
“I called my guy and he edits the Housewives clip with the sex scene clip,” Todd said.
Todd explained that he knew the post would likely perform well because it tied the Bravo scene to the movie’s steamy footage.
He said the clip did exactly that, going viral and getting major traction online.
But according to Todd, Shamea was not happy with the way the post connected her movie scene to the Housewives conversation about her husband’s reaction.
Todd said Shamea texted him and asked why he would post it that way.
“She texted me and asked why would I post that connecting it to the Housewives,” Todd said.
Todd admitted his first reaction was, “Why wouldn’t I?”
But a day later, Shamea asked him to take the post down, and Todd said he did.
“And then a day after she was like can you take it down? And I took it down,” Todd said.
Todd says his perspective changed once he realized Gerald’s discomfort was not just something being played up for reality TV.
Now that he understands Gerald really did have an issue with the scene, Todd says he regrets sharing the promo the way he did.
The backlash started because fans were shocked that Shamea would film such an intimate scene for a Todd Tucker production, especially after her husband’s discomfort with her acting became part of the RHOA conversation.
Many viewers also took issue with Todd using the RHOA moment about Gerald being upset to promote the actual sex scene from the movie.
Todd previously defended the project by saying “it’s acting” and “it’s just a movie,” while also explaining that actors know what their roles involve before signing on.
But this time, Todd is acknowledging that the issue was not just about the movie scene itself.
It was about the way he promoted it.
