NeNe Leakes is sharing an update on Kim Zolciak as Kim’s family continues to deal with her son Kroy “KJ” Biermann Jr.’s serious legal situation.
During an appearance on the Big Tigger Morning Show on Friday, September 11, the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum revealed that she recently reached out to her former costar after KJ’s arrest.
“I recently spoke to Kim, I think it was last week,” NeNe said.
NeNe explained that she contacted Kim not only to check on her amid KJ’s legal troubles, but also to congratulate her on daughter Brielle Biermann.
“I just hit her up, wanting to know how she’s doing, congratulating her on Brielle and making sure she was okay with what her son KJ is dealing with,” NeNe said. “I know that’s a tough time and I know she’s not okay.”
NeNe added, “So I wanted to reach out. And I did, okay? I reach out to a lot of these girls. We just reach out to each other. But we’re not in contact on the daily basis.”
KJ, who is 15, was arrested in August on charges including aggravated sexual assault and aggravated sodomy over an alleged incident involving an unidentified minor female at a local gym.
He was later indicted on charges including aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment and three counts of sexual battery against a child under the age of 16.
Because KJ is a minor and the allegations involve minors, the case is extremely sensitive and will continue to play out through the legal system.
Prosecutors have also alleged that investigators found footage on KJ’s phone involving him and an unidentified family member under the age of 12 engaging in sexual activity. Deputy District Attorney Caitlin McGillicuddy claimed prosecutors also found evidence of “multiple encounters” where KJ allegedly used “predatory” and “derogatory” language toward the victim.
Kim has previously defended her son through a representative, stating that KJ “categorically denies” the allegations against him.
While discussing Kim, NeNe also opened up about where she stands with many of her former Real Housewives of Atlanta costars.
According to NeNe, she and Kim are on good terms, but she was careful about using the word “friend.”
“I’m cool with Kim,” NeNe said. “Friend? You know, when you say the word friend, that’s just a serious word to me so that’s just… Friend? No. Associates? Yes.”
NeNe said she does not have serious issues with the current or former Atlanta Housewives and believes most of them would answer if she called.
“If I need to call Porsha, K. Michelle, any of them on the show they all will answer,” NeNe said. “I don’t have no beef with them to the level that they won’t answer my call.”
She continued, “Girls from the past, if I called Shereé right now she would answer. Damn if I called Kandi she would answer. I don’t have enough beef with them where they’re just not going to answer my call.”
NeNe also mentioned Kenya Moore, Marlo Hampton and Cynthia Bailey, saying she recently spoke to Cynthia.
“I’m not fighting with anybody,” NeNe said. “I call Kenya, she’s answering. Marlo, she’s answering. Cynthia — I just spoke to her, like, two days ago.”
NeNe made it clear that while she may not be as close with the women as fans assume, that does not mean there is ongoing drama.
“We just don’t have a beef,” NeNe explained. “We’re just not close like people would think that we are but we don’t have a beef.”
NeNe and Kim’s relationship has gone through years of ups and downs since the early days of RHOA. The two started as close friends before their friendship famously fell apart on camera, leading to years of feuds, shade and occasional reconciliations.
