Vicki Gunvalson is defending her daughter Briana Culberson and making it very clear that she does not want fans speculating about Briana’s marriage.
The Real Housewives of Orange County star spoke exclusively with Us Weekly at The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th launch event on Tuesday, August 4, in New York City, where she addressed the online chatter surrounding Briana’s life in Oklahoma with her husband, Ryan Culberson.
“There’s some bad crap on the internet,” Vicki said. “Ryan’s a perfect husband. Briana is a perfect wife. They have a perfect family, so everybody needs to shut up.”
Vicki said the speculation has been hurtful for Briana, especially because she lives a more private life now and has an online business.
“I mean, it’s really made Briana upset,” Vicki shared. “I just hope it all goes away because she’s got an online business and she’s very respected. And Ryan’s a great guy.”
Briana’s life recently became a topic on RHOC after her brother, Michael Wolfsmith, revealed during the July 30 episode that he has not seen his sister in nearly eight years.
Michael later explained the distance on Instagram, sharing that he had been living in Hawaii and now Spain.
“I was living in Hawaii and now Spain,” Michael wrote.
He said he had once tried to visit Briana when he was closer to Oklahoma, but claimed the timing did not work because of Ryan.
“A couple years ago, I said I wanted to visit when I was fairly close to Oklahoma, and she said it wasn’t a good time because of her husband, who I don’t get along with very well 🤷♂️,” Michael shared.
Michael later clarified that he does still communicate with Briana and Vicki.
He said he is in a group chat with both of them and that they “have friendly personal convos.”
“I would prefer if we could see each other in person!” Michael added. “We were sending each other pugs we want a couple days ago.”
While Michael’s comments sparked fan speculation about Briana’s marriage and family life, Vicki insists Briana is happy.
Just because Briana no longer films RHOC does not mean something is wrong, according to Vicki.
“They have four children. They’re happy. I’m happy. My daughter’s happy. That’s all I could want for my children,” Vicki said at The Lobster Club.
Vicki also addressed old RHOC footage involving Ryan, which some fans have revisited amid the renewed conversation about Briana’s marriage.
“I mean, there was a moment in time where he got back from war and he got angry at one person one time,” Vicki said. “But they’re now making something out of that. That was over 15 years ago.”
Vicki appeared to be referring to a 2013 RHOC scene where Ryan became upset with Lydia McLaughlin’s mom, Judy McLaughlin, for putting her feet on a couch during Vicki’s Winter Wonderland-themed party. Ryan later apologized for his behavior.
Briana was a familiar face on RHOC for years, with viewers watching her relationship with Vicki, her health journey, her marriage to Ryan and their growing family. But in recent years, Briana has stepped away from the Bravo spotlight and focused on her life outside of California.
That has not stopped fans from discussing her, especially now that Michael’s comments have brought her family dynamic back into the conversation.
