Jo-Ellen Tiberi’s husband, Gary Tiberi, is dealing with some off-camera drama involving a North Providence property and thousands of dollars in cleanup costs.
According to records obtained by The Valley Breeze, Gary currently owes the town approximately $5,000 after officials stepped in to clean up the property surrounding a home he owns at 15 Elm Street.
Gary, who appears alongside Jo-Ellen on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Rhode Island, reportedly purchased the North Providence home for $176,000 in 2010.
The issue began in June 2025, when Gary was notified that the property was allegedly in violation of the Rhode Island Property Maintenance Code. The notice reportedly cited overgrown weeds, exterior sanitation concerns and an accumulation of garbage around the property.
Photos included with the violation notice allegedly showed heavy overgrowth surrounding the home, along with a dumpster positioned behind the house.
Gary reportedly did not respond to the first two notices, which were sent to his Cranston residence. He was later ordered to appear in North Providence Municipal Court in October 2025, but records show he missed that hearing and another court date the following month.
Town officials then requested permission to place a “clean and lien” on the property. The process allows the town to clean up a property and place the cost of the work as a legal claim against the owner.
The North Providence Department of Public Works eventually completed the cleanup, charging Gary $4,395 for labor, equipment and town employee time.
The charges reportedly included $500 for five hours of work from the building official, $900 for 12 hours involving the housing inspector and $1,080 for six workers who spent six hours cleaning the property.
The town also charged $1,200 for the use of four pickup trucks, $540 for a dump truck and $600 for town-owned weed whackers.
An additional $1,500 lien initially brought the total amount owed to $5,895. Officials also warned that the bill did not include any additional costs that could be added if problems with the property continued.
Gary later missed another court appearance, prompting a judge to approve the town’s request to remove the dumpster from the property and store it at a Department of Public Works facility.
He eventually appeared in court in January and asked for the lien to be reduced. Gary reportedly explained that the property had been occupied by a bad tenant and said he had already started cleaning up the lot following the tenant’s eviction.
During a March status hearing, Chief Municipal Court Judge Robert Peretti agreed to reduce the amount owed by $1,000.
The legal matter comes as viewers are getting to know Gary and Jo-Ellen on the first season of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island. Gary appeared throughout the season as a supporting cast member, with his relationship history and marriage becoming part of the show’s drama.
During the reunion, Andy Cohen also questioned Gary about his past relationship with Jo-Ellen’s sister, Jen.
At Gary’s most recent court appearance, he told the judge that he had been unable to reach the mayor’s office by phone to discuss the remaining balance. He said he planned to visit the office in person and schedule an appointment.
Gary was expected to return to North Providence Municipal Court on Wednesday, July 29, for another update on the case.
Neither Gary nor Jo-Ellen has publicly addressed the property dispute.
