Angie Katsanevas is opening up about where things stand with Mary Cosby ahead of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 7.
While promoting her GoDaddy School of Hustle podcast, Angie spoke with Us Weekly and shared that her friendship with Mary is going through a very real and emotional season.
“I think that it’s just very real and raw challenges that friends deal with,” Angie said. “She’s going through a lot and I’m going through a lot.”
RHOSLC Season 7 has already been a difficult one for both women.
Mary suffered a devastating loss in February when her son, Robert Cosby Jr., died at age 23 of a suspected drug overdose. Viewers previously watched Mary open up about Robert Jr.’s struggles with addiction, making the loss even more heartbreaking for longtime fans.
Production on RHOSLC was temporarily paused in February to give Mary time to grieve. She later resumed filming in early March, with a source telling Us at the time that “Robert Jr. will be talked about” on the show and that Mary was “aware and open” about it.
Angie has also been dealing with major changes in her personal life.
Reports surfaced on Monday, July 20, that Angie and her husband, Shawn Trujillo, have separated after nearly 30 years of marriage. The couple shares 15-year-old daughter Elektra.
Speaking generally about her friendship with Mary today, Angie admitted that things have not always been easy between them.
“There’s a lot of ups and downs,” Angie said. “I think that’s every year. It’s not all fun.”
Angie explained that as friendships deepen, the dynamic naturally changes.
“The honeymoon phase is over as your bond deepens,” she shared. “You’re more honest with each other and you say what you’re really feeling and thinking.”
Despite the challenges, Angie made it clear that there is still a lot of love between her and Mary.
“We love each other,” Angie said. “We love each other deeply.”
Angie also teased that RHOSLC Season 7 will focus heavily on real friendships and deeper dynamics within the group.
“There’s a lot of focus” on “deep friendships,” Angie said of the upcoming season.
She also reflected on why she believes Salt Lake City continues to connect with viewers.
“Sometimes I ask myself, ‘Why is Salt Lake so popular? What do people love about it? What makes us different?’” Angie said. “Everyone is so funny in their own way, but the relationships are real.”
According to Angie, the cast’s real connections are what make the show work.
“The friendships, there’s a lot of love and mutual respect with all the women, and the dynamics in this group are so interesting,” she explained. “It’s like an NBA team where every player is required and the relationships are getting deeper, the bond is getting deeper, and I think you feel that.”
Angie said viewers can expect to see the women in a more authentic light this season.
“You’re going to see the friendships deepening but with that comes more hurt, and more joy, and more fun,” Angie teased. “And also I just think that you’re going to see a lot more of everyone’s authentic self.”
She added, “I just really feel like everyone has hit their stride, and we’re seeing everyone in their truest form.”
Between Mary’s devastating loss, Angie’s reported separation from Shawn, and shifting friendships within the group, RHOSLC Season 7 sounds like it will be one of the franchise’s most emotional seasons yet.
