Sai De Silva is opening up about the emotional early days of her separation — and revealing which RHONY costar showed up for her the most.
During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio, hosted by Page Six’s Danny Murphy and Evan Real, Sai spoke about her personal life, the upcoming season of The Real Housewives of New York City, newbie Daisy, and what it was like filming with returning RHONY alum Carole Radziwill.
When asked who she leaned on most during the initial stages of her separation, Sai did not hesitate.
“Jessel,” Sai said. “Jessel and I are pretty close.”
Sai explained that Jessel Taank was one of the first people she called when news of her split unexpectedly became public.
“Well, you know, she was one of the first people that I called when everything went down with TMZ and everything came out,” Sai shared. “And I literally was just like on the bathroom floor boohooing with her on the phone and she kind of, you know, just gave me such great positive words of affirmation and just kind of talked me through it.”
Sai said Jessel was simply there for her when she needed support.
“And she was just there for me, you know. She was she was a good friend to me,” Sai said.
The moment is especially meaningful considering Sai and Jessel’s friendship has had its ups and downs since they joined RHONY. Sai admitted that their journey together has changed drastically over the years.
“I think almost in a way it’s like to see our journey and where our ups and downs and where we started four years ago to where we are now is such a drastic change,” Sai said. “And getting to know her, I wouldn’t change a thing because I think our relationship is so much more meaningful because we went through that, right?”
Sai added, “Yeah, she’s a solid friend.”
Sai also teased what fans can expect from RHONY newbie Daisy, who has a very interesting connection to Martha Stewart.
According to Sai, Daisy has worked as Martha’s makeup artist for around 17 years.
“Yeah, they still work together. They’re very close,” Sai said. “I mean, I think they’ve been working together maybe 17 years now. So, I think in a way they’re kind of like family.”
Sai revealed that she has met Martha through Daisy, who often hosts parties at her home.
“Yes,” Sai said when asked if she had met Martha. “You know, Daisy does a lot of parties at her house and Martha is there. Martha comes by.”
Sai joked that Martha will even judge Daisy’s cooking from time to time.
“She comes by and judges Daisy’s cooking every now and then,” Sai shared. “Her store bought pie, you know. Martha’s really cool.”
When Evan joked that Martha could be lightly considered a friend of the show this season, Sai kept things vague.
“I don’t know,” Sai said. “I have no idea.”
Sai also addressed Carole Radziwill being back in the RHONY mix.
“Carole is back in the mix,” Sai said. “You know what? Carole held her own this season.”
When Danny suggested it seemed like Sai and Carole had some tension, Sai joked that she was not going to reveal too much.
“Listen, stop trying to get information out of me, okay?” Sai said. “I’m pretty sure my boss is listening. Almost positive.”
Sai explained that she had only met Carole twice before filming with her and did not really know her beforehand.
“I met Carole twice before actually filming with her,” Sai said. “We met through a mutual friend one night when we were all out and then I bumped into her in front of my building again after that. So, it was just like a random meeting, but we actually never sat down and had a full-on conversation.”
As for what it was like getting to know Carole while filming, Sai admitted it was not easy at first.
“It was tough at first,” Sai said. “It was tough in the sense of, I don’t know her. Like I really knew nothing about Carole.”
Sai also admitted she did not know much about Carole’s background before filming.
“And I’m going to be very honest. I had no idea she was a journalist. I had no idea about her backstory, which there’s a lot of story there that I had no, you know, I had no clue,” Sai shared.
Still, Sai had kind things to say about Carole.
“But she has a really great side to her,” Sai said. “And I love that she’s super intelligent and she’s a little quirky in a way. So, you know, nothing but love for Carole, but you know, you’ll see what happens.”
