During a court hearing on April 27 in Los Angeles County, a judge approved Richards’ request to seal sensitive financial documents related to the case. The request had originally been filed earlier this year by her legal team.

Phypers and his attorney were not present at the hearing. When asked outside the courthouse about when the divorce might be finalized, Richards’ attorney responded, “It’s hard to tell.”

The former couple has been in a legal dispute since July 2025, when Phypers filed for divorce after six years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.

Shortly after the filing, Denise sought a restraining order, alleging that she experienced physical and emotional abuse during the relationship. Phypers denied those claims in a statement.

“Not true. Conjured up. I have the real evidence,” he said at the time. “I have never physically or emotionally abused Denise or anyone. These accusations are completely false and deeply hurtful. Denise and I, like many couples, have faced our share of challenges, but any suggestion of abuse is categorically untrue. I have always tried to approach our marriage with love, patience and respect.”

The legal battle has also included financial disputes. In December 2025, Phypers requested spousal support, stating that he was in debt. A judge later ordered Richards to pay $5,000 per month in temporary support.

More recently, Richards received another favorable ruling when a judge determined that she is not responsible for any debts Phypers accumulated, either before or during their marriage. The court also ruled that a debt collection agency could not pursue Richards’ income or assets to cover those obligations.

As the case continues, the latest decision to seal financial records marks another development in what has become a prolonged and closely watched legal dispute.
