After watching a tense family conversation play out on Married to Medicine, Dr. Simone Whitmore admitted she wasn’t prepared for how it would feel seeing it back on screen. The moment, which centered on money, entitlement, and her son’s future plans, hit harder than she expected once it aired.

“That was a really painful moment to watch back,” Simone told the Daily Dish. “I knew that he was spoiled, he was entitled, but seeing how entitled he really is, I wanted to choke him out.”

The conversation took place during Season 12, Episode 3, as Simone came to terms with a major life shift. With both of her sons, Miles and Michael, recently graduating from college, she made it clear that her role as their primary financial support had come to an end.

“Once Miles and Michael told me that they were gonna be graduating this year, all I have been able to think about is moving forward financially,” she shared in a confessional. “Now, it’s time to pay bills, baby!”

The biggest source of tension involved her younger son, Michael, who was 22 at the time. Simone revealed that he had “spent over $60,000 by himself” on a credit card in just one year. That spending became a key reason she told him that paying for law school would be his responsibility, not hers.

During a family meal Michael and his older brother Miles, 26, prepared for Simone and her husband Cecil on the December 14 episode, she raised concerns about Michael’s “financial situation” and asked how he planned to pay for law school.

His response immediately rubbed her the wrong way.

“I do have a mother who makes pretty good money,” Michael said.

Simone shut that idea down just as quickly.

“I don’t feel like I should be footing the bill for anything other than the roof over your head, that sort of a thing … The only one here at the table with an actual graduate doctorate degree is me. And how I did it was I got scholarship money and loans.”

Michael pushed back, arguing that circumstances had changed between generations.

“Your mom was not able to do the things for you that you’re able to do for us. What about all the rich white kids? Their parents pay for their way to do everything, and they get out of college debt-free and are millionaires.”

While Simone stood firm on camera, she later revealed that the situation didn’t end there. In an exclusive interview with The Daily Dish, she explained that they ultimately reached a compromise regarding Michael’s law school plans.

“We came to an agreement,” she said. “He’s going to law school in the fall of 2026. And the agreement we have is that he will take loans for tuition, and I will support him, provided he cuts back on his fabulous, luxurious lifestyle. So, no more spending 60K on a credit card.”

Even with that agreement in place, watching the conversation unfold on television forced Simone to confront just how difficult it is to draw financial boundaries with adult children. For her, the episode wasn’t just about money. It was about letting go, setting limits, and accepting that growth can be uncomfortable on both sides.
