Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Bronwyn Newport is mourning the heartbreaking loss of her father, David Richard Newport, who passed away on June 13 after a sudden fall triggered a rapid health decline.
Known for her appearance on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Bronwyn, 39, took to Instagram to share the news with her followers. Overlaying a black-and-white photo of her father, she wrote:
“Earlier today we lost my wonderful father, David Richard Newport.”
David had been living in a memory care facility after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, a detail Bronwyn had shared with fans in past updates. The most recent events, however, were swift and devastating.
“Yesterday, we were told he most likely only had a few days,” she shared. “It has been a huge shock to lose someone seemingly so suddenly that yet we’ve been caretaking through such a long illness.”
Despite the pain, Bronwyn expressed gratitude for being able to remain at her father’s side throughout his final days.
“I am so grateful to have been able to be by his bedside all week and in his final moments to help both him and my mom,” she said. “I’m grateful we had some idea what was happening toward the end so much of our family could gather to be with him.”
The family is now taking time to “process this profound loss,” Bronwyn explained. She also mentioned that her mother encouraged her to share the update publicly:
“She wanted me to share so those who knew and loved him could think fondly of him at this time.”
No funeral or memorial details have been released.
The loss follows an already emotionally taxing year for Bronwyn. In February, she said goodbye to Claire, her beloved 9-year-old dog. And over the past several months, she has openly documented her father’s health struggles. In December 2024, she revealed David had taken another fall, saying he had been “up and down” ever since. A family Easter visit in April was especially difficult.
“My dad has been doing so great in memory care, but this week he hasn’t been himself,” she wrote at the time. “It had been a very emotional day.”
Her mother, too, has been battling serious health issues. Last Christmas, Bronwyn spent the holiday in the ICU after her mom underwent emergency surgery for a brain tumor — one located in the same area as a previous tumor found nearly 30 years ago.
“I spent all afternoon with her in the ER, and then Christmas Eve too,” Bronwyn recalled. “I went home that night to be with my dad and one of his wonderful caregivers. Thank goodness you can get pizza delivery for three delivered on Christmas Eve night!”
Throughout these difficult experiences, Bronwyn credits her mother as a guiding light.
“My mom has always been the ultimate example of compassion and service to others,” she shared. “My whole life I have watched and been dragged along and eventually learned to participate and enjoy serving alongside her.”
