The line between reality television and reality itself has blurred once again—this time with Real Housewives of Salt Lake City newcomer Britani Bateman at the center of a serious legal storm. While fans may have welcomed her glamorous lifestyle and dramatic flair in the newest season, a civil lawsuit filed earlier this month paints a much less polished picture behind the scenes.

According to a complaint filed by 87-year-old Sandra Underwood, Britani Bateman’s former mother-in-law, the reality star allegedly refused to repay a $100,000 loan that was meant to support Sandra during her retirement and medical challenges. The money was originally deposited into a trust—set up by Bateman’s own father—with the understanding that Sandra could access it at any time. Instead, she claims Britani used it “for her own personal benefit,” despite Sandra’s limited income and growing medical expenses.
The allegations go further than just financial negligence. The lawsuit accuses Bateman of “willful, malicious, and intentionally fraudulent conduct,” stating that even after legal efforts were made to recover the money earlier this year, Bateman failed to respond.
Sandra, who sold her home to fund the trust and even added an additional $200,000 with plans to build on Britani Bateman’s Utah property, now says she’s left without the financial stability she was promised. A letter from Sandra’s attorney urged Bateman to act with “simple decency and morality” and repay the amount, noting that she had at one point seemed to acknowledge Sandra’s right to the money.

At the same time, Britani Bateman has painted a different narrative online, alleging that her ex-husband drained her accounts and left her financially cut off—despite appearances to the contrary on social media, where she continues to showcase a seemingly lavish lifestyle.
Now, Sandra is not only demanding the return of the original $100,000 but also interest, legal fees, and potentially up to three times the initial amount in damages, should the court find in her favor.
