“We had run into each other prior to her being on ‘Jeff Lewis’ and doing that interview,” Kathy explained to hosts Ian Mohr, Danny Murphy, and Evan Real.

The run-in happened at a charity event — one that Kathy and her husband, Rich Wakile, were involved with. “I didn’t see them, but they saw me and didn’t say hello,” she said, referring to Melissa and Joe Gorga’s presence at the event.

But the story didn’t end there.

“The next day, Melissa texts me, which was very nice. She reached out and said how sad it was that we were at the same event and we walked by each other and didn’t say hello,” Kathy recalled. She added pointedly, “Shame on [Joe] if he saw me and didn’t come up to me.”

That message from Melissa came with a proposal for a deeper conversation. “Melissa added in her text, ‘I think that there’s things we should talk about. Would you be open?’” Kathy shared. “So we met for lunch and [then] she went on ‘Jeff Lewis’ and acted like, ‘Oh, that’s a good idea, Jeff,’ when we had already had our lunch,” she added, calling out the odd timing of the public reveal.

As for how the lunch actually went? Kathy was diplomatic, describing it as “fine,” but noted, “I don’t think it went as Melissa would’ve liked it to go.”
