Earlier in the season, viewers witnessed Robert Jr. bravely discuss his battle with substance abuse and his emotional vulnerability about feeling lost. This led him to enter a 30-day rehab program, something Mary says she’s incredibly proud of.

“My mission was accomplished,” Mary shared, reflecting on their decision to speak out about Robert Jr.’s struggles. “When we talked, we didn’t have a script, but we agreed that if our story could help even one person, it was worth sharing.” Mary Cosby added that the decision to be open was never about fame or recognition—it was about healing and connection.

Looking back on the moment Robert Jr. opened up on camera, Mary Cosby was deeply moved. “I didn’t expect him to share what he did,” she admitted, tearing up. “But he did, and it was powerful. He wanted to change.”

While Mary Cosby says Robert Jr. is “doing good” since returning home, the path to recovery remains difficult. She expressed her concerns about the challenges that often accompany rehab, such as having to distance oneself from old friends and unhealthy environments. Thankfully, Robert Jr. has found support in his new social circle through AA meetings and support groups.

MaryCosby , ever the protective and loving mother, revealed that she still worries about him. “It’s not easy,” she explained. “I feel like you have to change your entire life after rehab—your people, your routine, your mindset. He’s spending more time at home now and staying away from old friends, but it’s still hard.”

Despite the ups and downs, Mary remains her son’s biggest cheerleader, referring to Robert Jr. as her “everything.” She confessed that, while it was heartbreaking to discover his struggles with both substance abuse and suicidal thoughts, she was proud of how open he’s been with her.

“I just want him to know that he’s worthy,” Mary said tearfully. “We’re often our own worst critics, and I can see that in him. He’s really hard on himself, and I just wish he didn’t feel that way.”

As Mary continued to reflect on her relationship with her son, she recalled her own childhood and the lengths she went to give Robert Jr. the opportunities she didn’t have growing up. “I wanted him to experience everything I didn’t, so I moved to New York for eight years to make sure he had the best education and a more diverse environment,” she shared.

Looking back, Mary admitted she felt a sense of guilt when she realized how much she had missed while Robert Jr. was struggling. “I didn’t know he was going through all of that, and it scared me,” she said. “We’re so close, and I had no idea.”

When asked by reunion host Andy Cohen about Robert Jr.’s decision to seek help, Mary explained that it was his choice to enter rehab, something she emphasized was crucial to his healing. “He wanted to go,” she revealed. “He wasn’t sure if it was a problem, but he knew he needed help. That’s when I realized he really wanted to change.”

Despite some lingering feelings of guilt, Mary acknowledged that recovery is a personal journey, and Robert Jr.’s path is his own. “I do blame myself sometimes,” she confessed. “But everyone has their own story, their own journey. This one is his.”

Part three of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs next Wednesday at 8pm ET
