Dorit Kemsley is opening up about a pivotal moment in her ongoing separation from husband Paul “PK” Kemsley, and it’s one she never saw coming. During the January 28 episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the 48-year-old reality star shared how her 10-year-old son, Jagger, learned about her split from PK—and it wasn’t the way she expected.
“I’ve been dreading this,” Dorit confessed as she recounted the conversation with her son. “Jagger, this morning, we were walking the dogs, and he says, ‘Oh, can I talk to you, mommy?’ I said, ‘Sure.'” Dorit then gave her fellow Housewives a knowing glance before continuing: “So he’s like, ‘Are you and daddy divorced?'”
The revelation came as a shock to Dorit Kemsley, who had hoped to keep the separation under wraps for a bit longer. But as it turned out, Jagger had already discovered the news in the most modern of ways—through social media. “He said, ‘Did you post something about it on Instagram?'” Dorit revealed, clearly struck by the unexpected source of her son’s knowledge.
When the Housewives asked if her immediate response was to “just die” or “start running” from the conversation, Dorit Kemsley laughed, but admitted, “I didn’t know how to handle it.” Nevertheless, she faced the tough conversation head-on, explaining the situation with honesty and care. “I said, ‘In marriages, when you’re married for a long time, you can have your ups and downs, sometimes you need a little time apart,'” she shared.
In true Dorit fashion, she didn’t sugarcoat the explanation, offering Jagger an honest look at the complexity of adult relationships. But the most poignant moment came when Jagger expressed concern about the future. “He said, ‘But you and daddy, you’re always going to be friends, right? You’re always going to be best friends,'” Dorit recalled. Her heartfelt response? “I sure hope so!”
Dorit and PK, who share two children, Jagger and 8-year-old Phoenix, announced their separation early last year. At the time, the couple released a joint statement emphasizing their desire to protect their children’s well-being amidst the speculation surrounding their marriage. “We as a couple have been subject to a lot of speculation about our marriage,” they wrote. “To safeguard our deep friendship and maintain a harmonious environment for our children, we have made the mutual and difficult decision to take some time apart and reevaluate our relationship while we prioritize our children.”
