Bozoma Saint John is opening up about her unexpected friendship with Dorit Kemsley, and why she doesn’t think it would have worked in the past.
During an appearance on The Bossticks, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star admitted that timing played a major role in their connection.
“what’s so funny about Dorit is that, I told her this, so this is nothing new, but when she hears this, she wont be like, oh my God,” Boz said.
“But I dont know if we would have been friends five years ago.”
Boz explained that both she and Dorit were in completely different places in their lives back then.
“Because life was different. She was in a different space and I was in a different space.”
According to Boz, their bond formed almost instantly when they met — largely because they were both going through major life changes.
“But now, we are at a moment where literally the first moment we met, we were already trauma dumping on each other.”
She described how their first conversation quickly turned personal.
“You know what I’m saying? She was like, ‘I’m separated. I’m going through divorce.’ I was like, girl my husband died.”
Boz said that shared experiences with loss and change created an immediate connection between them.
“It was like, we could connect on loss and a change in life as you knew it.”
That emotional overlap also gave Boz a different level of understanding compared to some of the other women in the group.
“So I had immense empathy for the situation she was in, whereas in. Some of the other women couldn’t really identify.”
