RHOSLC’s Mary Cosby’s Son Arrested for Assault; Tried to Enter Home Through Dog Door

RHOSLC's Mary Cosby Breaks Down Over Son’s Addiction, Calls It Her Responsibility to Help

When Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby first opened up about her son’s addiction struggles on the show, fans applauded her honesty and vulnerability. But now, Mary’s world has been shaken once again — her 21-year-old son, Robert Cosby Jr., was arrested over the weekend in a disturbing series of events that culminated in an attempted break-in through a dog door.

According to TMZ, Robert Jr. was taken into custody on Saturday and is now facing multiple charges: criminal trespassing, assault, failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, and three violations of a court order.

Police say they responded to a domestic violence call, which led them to his father-in-law’s home. There, they claim Robert Jr. tried to crawl into the house through a dog door and assaulted someone on the front lawn.

When law enforcement arrived, things escalated further. The report notes that an officer ordered him to get on the ground — something he initially failed to comply with before he was eventually subdued and arrested.

This latest incident follows a string of troubling events in Robert Jr.’s young life — many of which have been aired publicly through his mother’s time on RHOSLC and appearances on talk shows. Most notably, in November 2024, he appeared in a heartfelt scene on Bravo where he opened up about his battle with addiction.

“At first, I was like, I’m just gonna stick to natural stuff,” he said on the show. “And then, I went to a party, and someone gave me a Xanax. And then I was like, ‘Oh, I like this,’ so I started buying it.”

He then detailed a harrowing spiral:

“I started doing Xanax with acid and then molly with Xanax, because I like Xanax, so I mixed it with everything — Xanax and cocaine.”

At his lowest point, Robert Jr. admitted to using staggering amounts of OxyContin.

“I was taking 10 [30 milligram OxyContin pills] at once, and I couldn’t even feel it. I couldn’t feel it at all.”

Mary has never shied away from sharing her family’s struggles. On Watch What Happens Live in December 2024, she gave fans an emotional update:

“Rob is doing so good,” she said tearfully. “I am so proud of him, so proud of him.”

Sadly, her optimism may have been premature. Earlier this week, Mary spoke again about her son’s relapse during an interview on SiriusXM’s Reality Checked:

“I can just only push him, encourage him and love him. And that’s what I’m doing.”

She added:

“That’s kind of where we are… But he’s still on that road and it’s a hardcore road.”

Mary also revealed that her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., is “devastated.”

This isn’t Robert Jr.’s first run-in with the law. In 2022, he was arrested for a DUI, and at the time, police reported he was operating a vehicle without a valid license and had violated multiple traffic laws. Although he pleaded guilty to the DUI, he was later entangled in further legal trouble for allegedly failing to prove that he completed a court-ordered rehab stay.

Mary and her son’s journey has sparked deep conversations about addiction, mental health, and the challenges of parenting in the public eye. It’s a painful reminder that fame doesn’t shield anyone from the struggles of real life.

For now, Mary is leaning into what she’s always done — love and support her son, no matter how difficult the road ahead may be.

I hope Robert Jr gets better and see's the light but I do not have a lot of faith.
