In a surprising turn of events, The Real Housewives of Potomac star Karen Huger is set to be released from prison earlier than expected.
According to The Jasmine Brand, the 62-year-old reality star will be released on September 2, despite originally receiving a two-year prison sentence just six months ago.
The news comes after Huger was sentenced on February 26 to two years in prison with one year suspended for a drunk driving case that shocked fans of the Bravo franchise.
The incident, which took place earlier this year, was partially captured on bodycam footage released by police. The video shows a visibly intoxicated Huger stumbling and slurring her words, a moment that stunned viewers and the reality star herself. While speaking to police, she reportedly told her husband of 28 years, Ray Huger, “You will be alright” and “God’s got you.”
During the season 9 reunion of The Real Housewives of Potomac, Huger confronted the incident head-on. Watching the footage for the first time, she appeared shaken and introspective. “Dots are being connected for me,” she said. “I keep saying, ‘Surely they made a mistake, right? Because everything’s not connecting to me.’ And I watched and I’m telling you… I didn’t recognize that woman. I didn’t know her. … But it helped me to hear that because I blacked out before the impact.”
In March 2024, Huger was officially charged with multiple offenses including DUI and DWI, negligently driving a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner endangering property, life, and person, and driving with suspended registration. She also faced charges for failure to control vehicle speed, speeding, and failure to notify the administration of a change of address within 30 days.
Ultimately, she was found guilty on all charges except reckless driving.
While Huger’s early release raises eyebrows, it also sets the stage for what’s sure to be a dramatic return to the spotlight and perhaps redemption for the self-proclaimed “Grande Dame” of Potomac.
