Joe Gorga may be reshaping RHONJ. While The Real Housewives of New Jersey remains in a holding pattern, new information from a production insider offers a glimpse into Bravo’s current vision for the franchise’s future.
According to an source who spoke to OK! Magazine, Bravo is seriously considering reshaping the series to focus on Joe Gorga’s ‘lighthearted comedic energy,’ a major shift from the darker tone the show had taken in recent seasons.
“Things are constantly evolving in the world of RHONJ, but right now there seems to be a strong emphasis on Joe Gorga and the humor he brings to the screen,” the insider revealed. The move is seen as a way to lighten the mood of the show and bring back some levity. Naturally, this would also mean Melissa Gorga is expected to return as a full-time Housewife.
Melissa’s flexibility with production appears to be another reason she’s likely to remain on the cast. Notably, she’s now open to filming with her sister-in-law Teresa Giudice—a dynamic she previously resisted. “Yes, they’ve had a rocky history, but Melissa understands that this is a job,” the source explained. “She knows that avoiding Teresa entirely on camera only caused more issues.”
Bravo, according to the insider, is also eager to minimize off-camera drama. “Melissa is ready to do what’s necessary to save her spot on the show, and to help keep the franchise alive,” the source added.
Another fan-favorite being prioritized by the network is Dolores Catania, which seems clear given her recent crossover appearance on The Real Housewives of Rhode Island. Margaret Josephs also remains in Bravo’s good graces. The insider confirmed that Margaret is expected to return and noted her invitation to BravoCon as a positive sign of her status with the network.
“Other than Teresa, Melissa, and Dolores, Margaret is the only RHONJ star invited to BravoCon,” the source said. “She consistently brings real drama, is quick-witted and funny, and fans love her. If Bravo were planning to let her go, she definitely wouldn’t be at BravoCon.”
In addition to the familiar faces, Bravo is reportedly looking to introduce some new women to the cast. The network seems to be learning from past missteps, most notably, the full-cast reboot of The Real Housewives of New York City, which received mixed responses and lower ratings than anticipated.
“They’re not going to repeat that mistake with RHONJ,” the source insisted. “Even though there were some internal discussions about whether or not to bring the show back, fan demand has been overwhelming.”
Bravo is said to be closely monitoring social media, and they’re well aware of how vocal viewers have been about wanting RHONJ to return. According to the insider, “The ratings potential is there, and it’s very likely the show will be back, with these core women leading the way.”
Most recently, Andy Cohen confirmed on Watch What Happens Live that Bravo is nearing a decision regarding the future of RHONJ. Fans can likely expect official announcements soon.
